“What could you possibly have to say to Overhaul?" Shota climbed down to stand beside her.

"We're going to end all of this. That's all." She sounded firm but tears still fell freely.

"And...Tatsuo?" Shota started walking.

"What about him?"

He felt the jealousy springing up again, but pushed it aside, "He did what he did to protect you....in a twisted way."

"He did," she sighed, "but that doesn't change what he did. What he took from us. The smile on his face as he did it." She grimaced. “He may have been protecting me in the beginning but in the end he was punishing me.”

Shota nodded, "You still love him?"

"No." She stopped walking. " I remember really good times, he cared. But that changes nothing. He chose that path and this is the result. I stopped loving him the moment I knew what he really was."

"So he was your first love?" He reached for her hand to keep walking.

"I didn't say that. He was my first real relationship, though. You were my first love. You were just too shy to do anything about it when we were in school." She smiled up at him.

"You loved me then? In school?" He looked genuinely surprised.

She nodded and pulled his face to her height for a kiss. She pulled back after a kiss, "I'm sorry, for everything.."

"We don't know for sure. Besides, all I need is you."

He glanced around suddenly, "don't move. Use your quirk. Someone's here."

She didn't say a word, and let her quirk go.

Her face contorted into a frown.

"Keigo. What could you possibly need now?" She turned to face the empty alleyway.

Shota groaned.

"That is no way to greet a friend! I was merely here for moral support. I saw your pal back there creeping through and decided to watch." He stepped from a rivet along the wall. "Besides, What'd I say about using your quirk on me."

"Why? What's so special up there, bird brain?" She mocked, but let herself in anyways, thinking he was joking and being his usual goofy self.

"I said. Don't. Do. That." His chest puffed out he looked a little frantic.

"Keigo...you didn't?" She said slowly. She Lifted her chin and squared her body to face him.

His normally friendly face and demeanor dropped.

"I do what I have to.." he shrugged.

She'd found what he'd been hiding. Why he was so defensive and against her using her quirk. Why his head was always seemingly empty.

"You knew? The whole time you knew? That's why you've been popping up." It almost sounded like a snarl. She bent into a crouch pulling a knife from its sheath.

Shota glanced between them, confused.

"You've been working WITH Overhaul this whole time. " Chieko slid the knife along her forearm aiming slowly.

Hawks put his hands up, "It's not like that, kid, please let me explain before you pull out the hardware."

Shota stared at him, "how long?"

"A year." He tried to step forward, but Shota side stepped to stand in front of Chieko.

“Not another step.”

"So you knew...you knew where she was. You knew what they were doing to her. You knew everything..." he felt the anger bubbling over, his scarves lifted around him.

"Aizawa, please, understand. I'm working with the commission. They're trying to infiltrate the League. I'm their pawn." He looked the Chieko, "I'm so sorry."

She wasn't sure how to feel. They'd always been friends. He seemed to try to help and did seem to have her best interests at heart.

"That excuses nothing, Keigo." Shota growled, "Were you there? Did you hear her screaming?"

Hawks head hung further, "No. I only saw her after she was brought back from Overhaul. Before that she was kept pretty hidden."

Chieko eased from behind Shota, still holding his arm. She stayed silent.

"Chieko...Tatsuo did what he did to keep you from Overhaul's table. Jiro tattled, and rather than let them take you, he...well you know, you were there."

She felt empty. She felt like any autonomy she had was stripped away. She was just a doll for them to toss around and do as they pleased with. Kill and revive at a whim.

"He killed you, because he knew a worse fate was waiting. Even if Aizawa got you back that night, Overhaul was coming."

Chieko still said nothing.

"You need to leave, Keigo." Shota finally broke the silence.

Hawks nodded, "Luce, please try to forgive me.." he whispered before taking off.

Shota looked back down at Chieko. Her face was stoic.

"Let's get inside. We need to call Kenji." He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, "I don't know how many times I can say I'm sorry before it loses its meaning."

"No apologies, you didn't do anything. I'm going to pretend I didn't see what you did to those thugs after I died." She side eyed him.

"And I'll pretend I didn't see what you did to the men in Tatsuo's building."

"A deals a deal," Chieko nodded.

"If you could bring him back, would you?" Shota winced at the question.

"No. He had a troubled life. His parents were absent, he resented people with quirks, even me. He was walking this path long before I stepped into the picture, Jiro made sure of that." Chieko glanced back in the direction he'd left.

Shota nodded, "Jiro is mine to deal with."
