Jade sighed as she slammed the alarm clock that had been going off for ten minutes now, groaning as it knocked to the floor, making a loud crash.

She kicked the covers off of her and sat up, wanting nothing more than to just go back to sleep. But she knew she couldn't.

So instead she stood up, walking to her closet to pick out an outfit to wear for the day.

She decided on a plain black tank top and jeans, wanting to be comfortable but not look like she wasn't trying.

Most of her life she had tried to gain approval from people. Her parents, teacher and students from school, even random strangers on the streets- because if any of them spared her a glance, they'd wonder why she was dressed the way she was, why she had piercings in her nose, and why she had colorful streaks in her hair.

It wasn't like she cared about what other people thought about her. That wasn't the case at all.

The case was that she just wanted people to at least see that she was normal, or could act like it.

Being normal was all she'd ever wanted to be- but she never had the chance to take on that role, since her parents never taught her how it felt to be normal, to just blend in with the crowd.

She wanted to be normal.

But to be normal, she'd have to change everything about her. Her clothes, her hair, her personality. And she wasn't up for that task yet.

She wanted to be normal, but at the same time, she was quite fond of being the way she was.

So she slipped on the clothes, along with her signature boots, and headed to the bathroom to finish getting ready.

She had no plans for the day, but she could really go for some coffee and fresh air- it was a perfect day outside to just take a walk.

So that was what she did.

After fixing her hair and brushing her teeth, she left her apartment, leaving her car keys on the table since she decided she was going to walk today.

The goth let out a relieved sigh as she didn't see Beck anywhere in the coffee shop as she arrived, and she went up to the counter, telling the worker her usual order.

After the worker handed her the cup she left the coffee shop, heading to the park to take a walk.

She saw kids running around, giggling and play-fighting as they took on the slide and monkey bars, their parents barely even paying them any attention since their eyes were too busy being glued to their phones.

Jade felt her chest tighten as she watched the children, wishing that she had that much freedom when she was a kid.

Wishing she could've went to the park and play around with other kids her age without scaring them away.

Just once, that was all she asked.

But her childhood was ruined at a very young age, and she had to just settle with the fact that she would never get the chance to start over.

So she kept walking along the sidewalk, coffee in hand as she listened intently to the birds chirping and the light breeze fanning her face.

She usually hated nice weather, where the sky was blue and not a single cloud in the sky, the birds singing away and the sun shining bright down on the people who strolled along the sidewalks of LA.

But this time, she quite enjoyed it.

It relieved a lot of her stress, knowing that she could just take a walk in the park and not think about anything in particular.

The raven haired beauty decided on taking a break and sitting on a park bench, staring at the happy kids playing on the slide and swings from afar.

It felt nice. To just be free like this.

To not have to worry about a single thing.

It was soothing to her.

Much to her surprise, as soon as she took a seat on the bench, a small boy ran up to her.

"Hello," she said to him, taking notice of the shy look on his face.

"Hi," he replied, and Jade noticed his right hand hiding behind his back.

"What do you got there?"

He blushed, which Jade thought was adorable- he couldn't be more than at least ten years old.

He then brought his hand out from behind his back, holding a pretty purple flower. "It's a flower, I thought you could use it."

She smiled and took the flower from him. "Thank you, it's really pretty."

"Like you," he said, giggling softly.

She chuckled. "What's your name?"

"Malaki," he answered. "What's yours?"

"Jade."

"That's a pretty name."

She smiled again.

"I have to get back to my parents," he then said, smiling brightly at her. "It was nice to meet you."

"It was nice meeting you too," Jade replied. "Thank you for the flower."

He nodded, grinning before rushing back to his parents who were waiting by the playground.

Jade chuckled again softly, admiring the small flower in her hand.

She might've not been a kid anymore, but maybe there was still hope for her after all.
