“Sister.” I said and scoffed while shaking my head. “I think I would remember if I had a sister. Someone does not forget a thing, a big thing, like that.” I added before taking a deep breath. “Can you stop screwing around and tell me if you have any information on the people who might have lived here before you? This is sort of a life or death thing.” I finished.

“I’m not lying Tia.” She said using my nickname which caused me to flinch. “Mom and dad, they… they gave you these little yellow pills to help you forget. You just wouldn’t stop asking questions that day and they needed you to forget. Look just tell me where you are and I’ll come get you.” She said and I could hear rustling in the background.

“No, I don’t believe you. I’m hanging up now.” I said taking the phone from my ear.

“No Katia wait!” I could faintly hear. “I can prove it!”

I paused for what seemed like years but it was probably just a few minutes.

“Okay, I’m listening.” I said while looking around.

“There’s a false bottom in the box, you can’t find it unless you’re looking for it. In the upper right hand corner of the box take your finger and press down really hard.” She said.

“Okay, just a moment.” I mumbled while pressing the phone against my ear and shoulder again and did as instructed. I pressed down on the corner that she told me too but nothing happened. “Nothing is happening.” I said not sounding amused anymore.

“Press it harder Tia. It’s there, mom and dad wanted to make it hard so in case you found the box you couldn’t find what’s underneath it.” She said then let out a sigh.

I pressed even harder, to the point where my finger was starting to hurt and as soon as I was about to quit the bottom broke causing me to drop the thing. “Shit!” I said while bending down.

“What happened? Are you okay? Katia!” Annabelle screamed in the phone and I cringed.

“Jesus women you’re going to make me deaf. It opened but all this shit fell on the ground.” I said clearly sounding annoyed. “Pictures?” I said more to myself than her.

“There should be four. One is of all of us, you were five and I was twelve and it was just a few weeks before we all had to leave. In that picture you were wearing a light blue dress and if you look closely you can see the stain you made when you got jelly on it just twenty minutes before we had to take the picture.” She said then laughed a little. “Mom was pissed. But I’m next to you wearing a green dress with a white bow in my hair then mom and dad are behind us.” She said and I could just tell she was smiling. For the next fifteen minutes Annabelle described the picture down to every last detail, including which teeth I was missing. The other two were recent pictures of her and the fourth was of her family and her two kids included, by the end of it all I was in tears.

“You have a lot of explaining to do when you get here.” I said then finally told her the address.

It took Annabelle almost an hour to get here and then about five minutes for me to come out of my hiding spot. Even though she has more than proven herself to me I was still cautious, I probably will be for the rest of my life. Although I knew it was her by her description of the car I also knew by how much she looked like Dad. Unlike me who looks exactly like my mother Annabelle got the dark hair and brown eyes from our father, she was a spitting image.

“Annabelle.” I said quietly as I came out of the nearby forest.

“Jeez Katia I thought something had happened to you!” she said while walking up to me and then threw her arms around me. What surprised me even more was when I hugged her back. I had no memories of her but she felt comfortable. “Lets get out of here.” She said while pushing me to the car.
