JOHN

How many unexpected events could coexist in a week?  Certainly more than one, I was a bit stunned by so many events in a week, but happy that Julia was with us even though I was obliged to go with her to that Gavin dinner, a fact that I did not like at all.

She and Ronnie were still getting dressed while I smoked in the living room - smoking indoors only when the kids weren't around and preferably without Veronica around.

I was still shocked by Julia's performance the night before, it was not something I would forget so easily - Specially that my innocent sister hit my own ass - to tell the truth I didn't expect that from her, but after a few  minutes from the unforgettable show that she starred in, everything returned to normal, it was as if the glow she acquired for that performance was momentary.

The kids were still with Ronnie's parents, it was funny to think how huge the house was for me, Ronnie and Robert at first and now we had Laura and Michael.  The doorbell rang around the house and I quickly put out my cigarette in the ashtray in front of me and got up.

"I am going open the door!"  I shouted near the stairs going to open the door.

If Veronica came down to open the door, it would be another forty minutes until we left for the blessed dinner that I was going solely and exclusively on behalf of Julie.  I opened the door and opened my eyes wide.

"Deacy! I'm glad you opened that door!"  Freddie spoke in and I stopped him, who frowned.

"Hey mate! How are you?"  I pushed him out and closed the door behind me.

"What is happening?"  He asked when I released him.

"We are getting ready to leave."  I said scratching my head and a smile played on his lips.

"Great why didn't you call me?"  He rested his hand on the wall and looked at me with an amused smile.

"Fred- we are going to Gavin's dinner."  I spoke slowly and his smile gradually faded.

"Oh- dinner, of course today is Saturday."  He looked frustrated.

"Sorry mate- Me and Ronnie got the invitation today, we were taken by surprise."  I was extremely embarrassed about going to dinner with a man I didn't like and my best friend didn't like he either, but I owed Julie that.

"Well- Phoebe is in the car, I wanted to talk to Julia, but- have a great dinner!"  He tapped me on the shoulder and went out into the garden towards his car.

Was that ... strange?

Whenever I thought that the Julia and Freddie story was dramatic enough, something else happened, not that it had the potential of the other dramas, but whenever either side was willing to give up everything seemed to go wrong so that it didn't happen.

I sighed deeply and went back into the house and upon entering I came across Julia with Ronnie, both near the stairs talking when I closed the door.

"Who was?"  Ronnie looked at me quickly while Julia smoothed the black dress that went up to her ankles - thank goodness.

"Mhm Fred was taking a letter with me it was Phoebe."  I lied and went to both.  "You look beautiful, love."  I kissed Ronnie on the cheek and she smiled at me.

Julia looked at me, her green eyes were slightly sad, not even the makeup she wore would let that go unnoticed by me.

"You look Beautiful too Julie."  I said, pressing her cheek in an attempt to make her smile.  "And the dress looks great today."  I blinked and she laughed leaving the lonely dimple showing.
