"Come on, we don't have much time left," Jane whispers as we walk quitely through the corridors of Erudite headquarters.
"We should do it now, or we'll have to wait till tomorrow. And who knows, maybe Jeanine has planned this attack tomorrow."
I nod and look at Cara from the corner of my eye. Her face is pale and she looks a little sad, and still shocked, at the floor.
After I told Cara and Jane about the attack, the decision of me and Jane going to Dauntless was made fast.
Cara tried to get guns for us, even though we don't know how to use one, but she didn't find any.
Instead, Jane and I have both two butterknives, which is kind of pathetic. But it was everything we could find, and it's better than nothing.
Cara has a brother who transferred to Dauntless this year and she knows a little about the Dauntless compound and initiation, so she told us everything she knew.
Jane and I will have to jump on a train. It's a good thing I have watched the Dauntless jumping from the train everyday at school.
After ten minutes, we'll ride beside a seven stories high building and we'll have to jump from the train onto the roof of that building. It's part of the Dauntless initiation, so it should be survivable.
After that, we'll have to find the gap in the roof and jump. It sounds creepy, but Cara also told us there's a net at the bottom, which makes it a lot better according to the fact that there's a slightly smaller chance we'll slam into the ground and die. Unless they removed the net after initiation.
After that, there's more uncertainty. Cara knows there are cameras but not where and how many.
She got us a map and told us to find her brother, Will, who'll probably be in the transfers dorm. He's trustworthy, but he has probably not much influence.
We'll have to rely on him to find someone who has influence and would agree with us. Someone who wouldn't support the simulation attack.
We reach the door and step outside. It's probably around 10:00pm now, so the lights aren't out yet. There aren't any guards outside, which is definitely a benefit.
Cara leads us to a path which leads us through a few blocks of houses and ends in a field of grass. I see something glowing in front of me and realize they are the train tracks.
I run to the train tracks with Cara and Jane behind me. It's almost dark, so I don't see the dark figure behind us, hidden behind the trees. That's untill I hear them. The gunshots.
"Lay down!" I shout at Cara and Jane and drop to the grass. I take the butterknife from my pocket and lay very still.
My hands are shaking and my breathes are heavy. I think about how pathetic this is: someone is shooting a gun at us and we're just laying here, in the grass, with only butterknives to defend ourselves.
I turn my head slightly to look at the figure and see his walking toward us.
"Who are you?" the person shouts. Nobody answers.
"I asked you something! I know you're there!"
silence.
"If you don't answer me, I'll start shooting again!" she shouts, lifting her gun.
I close my eyes and lay my head down. This is the end for me. For us. This was a stupid and reckless idea.
My hands are shaking now and my heartbeat keeps rising. I can feel it in my throat. I try to calm down, to breathe slowly and order my thoughts. But it doesn't work.
