Hinode's Pov

I woke up to the sound of birds singing and the morning sun shining in my eyes, making me temporarily blind. I placed my arm over my eyes for temporary relief.

When I was sure I was now fully awake, I removed my arm. My right eye seemed to adjust fine, but not my left. Why isn't my left eye doing the same?

I quickly sat up in panic. Then waved my hand in front of my eyes to see if I could see. My right eye was fine, but I couldn't see with the other eye. Fear started settling in.

I touch my face to feel the veiny texture of the marking have surrounded my left eye. My fear dropping into the bottom of my stomach. Now I know why I can't see. The curse, it took my sight in my left eye. I'm blind in my eye.

I didn't know how to react. My hands were shaking. My fear almost consumes me.

Then I pinched my cheek. I closed my eyes and took in a deep breath. It's okay, Hinode. You are stronger than this. There is no point in fearing something that has already happened.

After I calmed myself down, I looked over to see my outer shoji open. A bouquet of red and white spider lilies laying in the opening.

Muzan must have placed them there.

I grap my cane and waddle over to them. When I picked them up, I spot a small piece of paper in the bundle of flowers. I squint my eyes to read 'Happy Birthday My Taiyou'.

I sigh at it, now knowing I was right. Damn him! I hate him so much, yet I can't seem to stop caring so greatly for him either! It's so frustrating!

I walked back to my futon, not bothering to shut the shoji on my way there. I sat down placing my cane and the bouquet next to my futon.

Then looked at my blood stained palm, remembering last night's coughing fit. I better change it before okaa-san sees it.

I take off the top of my sleepwear and begin to unwrap myself. My ugly purple skin in full display. When I was finished taking them all off, I began to put new ones on.

That when okaa-san knocked. "Hinode, I'm coming in! It's time to change your bandages!" Then she opened the shoji.

She nearly shrieked in horror. I smiled at her nervously. "Goodmorning, okaa-san. Wonderful whether we're having."

A furious expression taking over her face. "Hinode, you're not supposed to change them alone! You could hurt yourself!" She sped walked to the other side of my room and shut my outer shoji. "And you can't just leave your shoji wide open! Not when you're half naked!"

I waived both my hands in surrender while I laugh and smile nervously. "Sorry, sorry. I couldn't help myself. And it's nice out this morning. The sun feels nice and I like the sound of the birds singing."

When she came over and sat down in front of me, she took a good look at my face. Which caused her to stop scolding me. A worried look taking over the furious one, as she gently grabbed my face with both hands. She gently rubbed her thumb under my left eye. "Hinode, your eye...."

I took hold of both of her hands, pulling them away from my face, and gave her a closed eye smile. "I know, it's okay okaa-san. It doesn't hurt, I promise."

When I opened my eyes, I could see she didn't really believe me. Her worried expression didn't go away. A tear made it's way out of her eye, then glides down her cheek.

I let go of her hands and wipe the tear with my finger. "Don't cry, okaa-san. Everything will be okay."

She took hold of my hand this time, grasping it with both hands and held it to her forehead. I could feel her whole body shaking. Then she took a breath in and a shakey breath out. Finally, she lowered our hands and looked at me with a sad smile. That must be where I got it from. "Alright, Hinode. I trust you. If you say it doesn't hurt, then I'll believe it." She grabbed the clean bandages that laid on my futon, forgotten. "Let's bandage you up."
