"Atsushi-san! Today's job is to track down a criminal, and you're coming with me in case I get myself killed, " Okada informed Atsushi happily, tugging along the boy.
Atsushi happily followed the girl, as they chatted about small matters on their way to the cafe. Oh, sorry, did I say cafe? I mean the place that the criminal frequents. Okada and Atsushi got a coffee and sat down at the cafe. The girl had put on some shades, which she pulled out of nowhere, and started looking out of the window suspiciously. Atsushi had been here just slightly longer than Okada, but he was pretty sure that detectives didn't give themselves away like that.
Turning back to Atsushi, Okada realized she hadn't even briefed the poor boy, and simply dragged him along.
"Alright, Atsushi-kun. We're looking for this guy with black hair and brown eyes. Apparently, he's a serial killer or something. Wait, let me pull out the file for you, " Okada said, digging through her coat to find it.
Okada had all kinds of weird things in her coat. She pulled out a camera, a pack of chips, a bunch of rubber bands, a comb, etc. Atsushi sweatdropped. How many things did she have in her coat? Finally, Okada had pulled out the case file, showing Atsushi a photo.
"Hey, isn't it that guy over there?" Atsushi pointed out of the window.
Good golly, Okada hadn't even noticed the man walk in and out of the cafe. I mean, with that horrendous fashion sense, it was almost impossible not to spot him.
"After him, Atsushi-san! We mustn't let the suspect get away!" Okada ordered, grabbing her coffee from the table and running after the man.
Atsushi followed close behind, and they both followed him into an alleyway.
"Tch. Why'd they assign me such a lowlife like him? This is the easiest case they've given me, "
In front of them, was the culprit. However, he was lying on the ground, the ground cracking before him. Surrounded by a red hue, the man started screaming on pain, pleading for someone to let him go.
The person who had done that was standing right in front of them. He wore a cool fedora, and had striking orange hair that framed his face. All in all, he was cute. Plus, he was short.
Okada stifled her laughter at the boy's height. Holy... For once, she was taller than a boy who actually looked her age.
"Oi, you! What are you laughing at?" the boy snarled.
Oh, this was giving her flashbacks from her time with Akabane. Hah, Okada really couldn't believe it.
"Hehe... It's just... You're shorter than usual people, " Okada snorted.
Short was an understatement. Holy crap, she just couldn't believe it. God, he was cute, but God was he short.
"Oh yeah, stop, " Okada commanded, her eyes glinting purple.
Immediately, the red hue disappeared from the criminal's body, and the cute boy had stiffened up. Atsushi marvelled at the sight. This was the first time he got to see her ability in action.
"What- Hey! What did you do to me?" the orange headed boy struggled.
"State your name, " Okada demanded, her eyes now turning a deep shade of purple.
"Nakahara Chuuya. Wait, why did I say that?"
Ah shit. Now Okada was in deep trouble. This was one of the boys Akabane talked about all the time. Okada had already gotten involved with one. God, Akabane was going to kill her.
"Oh, Akabane is definitely going to slaughter me, " Okada chuckled, releasing her control over the orange headed boy.
She could see why Akabane would be attracted to him. Well, it was too bad that childhood friends always lose. Better luck next time, Nakahara.
"Nakahara-san, I'm going to leave you here. We, the Armed Detective Agency, will be taking the criminal. You did not see anything, and you were not involved. Got it?" Okada demanded.
"Woah, I'm not just going to let you leave like that after what you just did, " Nakahara said.
"Okay. Atsushi-san, let me teach you a lesson right here, " Okada smiled at the boy.
"RUN ATSUSHI-SAN!" Okada screeched, running at Nakahara and sliding under, throwing the body over her shoulder.
Oh God, the man was heavy. Thank God the police station was nearby. No way was she getting involved with the Port Mafia more than she was already involved. She looked back, only to see that the orange-haired boy was CHASING AFTER HER WHAT THE HELL?!
Okada immediately picked up her pace. No way was she going to make it to the station with a guy chasing her while she was carrying a criminal on her back. Nah, fam. She was trained physically for this, but no way was she going to haul a body to the station.
Atsushi was running after Okada. What made the girl think it was a good idea to just snatch the body and go? Perhaps they should have discussed things more logically, or Okada should have just told Nakahara to go away, but it was too late. He was out of hearing range, so she couldn't control him.
Finally, Nakahara had caught up to the girl who was running. He didn't even understand what was going on. He was just supposed to torture some information out of that guy. This woman just had to go and mess it up, huh? Now, his target was on a random woman's back as she bolted to the police station.
"I need the guy back!"
"No way, amigo!"
Atsushi sweatdropped. Was this really the best way to handle the situation? There were a 100 different ways that the situation could be handled, but they just had to go ahead and pick the worst way.
Seeing that Nakahara was in hearing range, Okada decided to activate her power.
"Stop following-"
Her sentence was cut short. Her mouth was sealed. Her lips felt too heavy to open that moment. Goddamned Nakahara.
Finally, they made it to the police station without any harm. That day, she had made a new friend. Or enemy. Nakahara Chuuya.
