It had been a week since I had proposed to Jenna. Every night, I'd replay the moment in my head over and over again. Just thinking about it put butterflies in my stomach. I could tell that she had been doing the same, because when we laid together in my bed, her hands would twitch a little and then grab onto mine. It was hard to believe that all these years, she had wanted to be in love with me. Now, she finally could because I took the leap. I should do that more often.

We decided to tell our family and friends today, because it felt like the right time. Also, I had bought her a ring to make it more official. It was a small, circle diamond on a silver ring. It was perfect for her style: glamorous but minimalist.  First, we rung up her parents on FaceTime. When they picked up, they saw us sitting together on the couch.

"What's going on, you two? You seem happier than usual". Jenna gave them a huge grin, and I lifted her hand, kissed it, then turned it to the camera. Diana's mouth gaped open, and happy tears went down her face. "How long have you two been together? Oh, I knew that you were meant to be!" I gave her a cheeky grin.

"Feels like forever. Turns out we both have been in love with each other since we were in high school, but never said anything. I grew a pair and finally confessed to her. Jenna told me she loved me too, and I asked her to marry me. Really, we had been in a loving relationship for a long time, just without the intimacy. But, I love your daughter, with or without it". I reached over and kissed her forehead.

"Niall, you're an amazing boy, and I'm glad to welcome you to the family. Even though you kind of already have been in it". We all laughed at her dad's joke, said our goodbyes, and hung up the call.

"I love you, blondie. Now, let's get those numbskulls over here and drop the bomb". I still loved when she called me that, even though I hadn't bleached my hair in almost a decade.

"What bomb?"

"Face it, they were all into me. You could see it in their faces. Especially Lou". I shrugged, knowing she was right. I messaged our group chat, telling them they could come over any time.

Tommo: be over in ten

Tommo: kind of scared about this news though...

Tommo: what if you kill us all??

Payno: im in the drive thru right now, but ill make my way over once im finished here

Zayn: louis you idiot

Harold: Louis, you are very funny. I am at the coffee shop near your house, Niall. Will be there soon. -H

Payno: no tommos onto something, nialler hasnt denied the claims...

I laughed at the goofballs behind the screen and typed a reply.

Me: no murder today, folks. something even more shocking 🤣🤣

Harold: I'm glad. TPWK. -H

Me: but liam may be dead if he doesn't get me food from wherever he's at 😂😂🤣

Tommo: told ya lads

I locked my phone and awaited their arrival. Jenna wrapped her arms around my neck from behind just in time to see my lock screen.

"Ew, why did you pick that picture of me from all of the ones you have?" I showed her a faint smile.

"Because this day was a great one. I remember it so well. You were wearing a black tennis skirt and a dainty little white top with these really chunky shoes. We went out to the park for a picnic, and we sat on the blanket under this tree for hours. Soon, it got really cloudy and cold. I was wearing your favorite sweatshirt of mine, the white Nike one, and of course I gave it to you to wear. We laid there, side by side, until the sun had finished setting and you were half asleep. You were curled in a tiny little ball, so sweet looking. I couldn't get myself to wake you up, so I didn't. We slept in the park that night, just you, me, and the stars. I took a picture of you next to me because I wouldn't want to forget this, never in a million years". I told her the story of the image that captivated my mind. She blushed and gave me a kiss on the cheek when a knock boomed through the flat. "Coming!"

I opened the door to a smiling, curly-headed Harry. He gave me a hug and walked into the foyer.

"So, what's up? You told us you had some news".

"Wait until the others get here and we'll tell you". Jenna wrapped her arms around my waist and looked at Harry from behind me. "It'll only be a few minutes. In the meantime, grab a seat, can I get you something to drink?"

"A glass of water would be nice, thank you". She went to go grab that, and I followed her into the kitchen, leaving Harry alone. She pulled me into a kiss, and I happily obliged, grabbing her and lifting her onto the counter. It got pretty heated, and I didn't even realize how much time was passing as I ran my fingers through her hair. She did the same, and I planted soft  butterfly kisses down her neck and collarbone.

I guess we forgot we were expecting company, because both of us nearly jumped when the door opened, revealing a shocked Louis and Harry.

"Well Haz, bet you didn't expect this to be keeping your refreshment. Lads, get in here!" Liam and Zayn followed behind, both smirking at the two of us.

"So...let's all head back to the couch, shall we? We do have news to share". I tried to clear the air, but it was still the most awkward experience of my life. When we all got back settled in, I took her hand and we stood in front of the crowd. "Alright, lads, this might come as a shock, but..."

"I said yes!" Jenna waved her hand in the air, and an array of perplexed faces stared back at us.

"Since when were you two a thing?" I smiled at Liam's comment and explained.

"Well, when we were 16, we made a pact to get married as best friends if we were still both single after college. It just so happens that, in that time, we fell in love. So, if you want to know how long we've been in love, more than 10 years. But, we were never an official couple or anything until now. Now, I have a fiancee who lights up my world". She beamed up at me, and I kissed her forehead.

"Wow. That certainly was more shocking than you killing us". They all laughed, and gave us hugs. "I'm really happy for you guys. Glad you finally chose to love". Harry nodded at me after sharing yet another word of wisdom. That man always knew what to say in every situation.

After they left, the two of us went out for dinner. We decided to get takeout and have dinner in the park, just like the scene in her picture. As we were eating pasta out of takeout dishes on the grass, Jenna asked me a question.

"So, I knew when you danced with me in the rain back home. When did you first know?"

"I always knew"
