January
"We have got to get out of this place"
I was practically drowning in my own boredom at that point, with nothing left to do but wait. My soul was itching for adventure, but my body was saying otherwise.
"Literally where would we possibly go? You have less than a month until you have to somehow push a kid out down there, and plus, we don't have the money to just drop everything and go on a vacation. Sorry love, but it's not happening"
"Come on, I just got a check for a couple grand from my book. Think of it as our last hurrah before parenthood"
Niall looked at me with that face that meant I was right. He reluctantly sighed, like he was already regretting what he was about to say.
"If you can somehow find a flight and hotel by the end of the day, we'll go on a little trip for the weekend"
"San Francisco"
He gave me a perplexed face, and I turned my laptop screen to him.
"I knew you would give in, so I was one step ahead of you. There's two flight tickets to San Francisco, and reservations to a hotel. We can leave Friday and come back Monday"
"Fine. But you better start packing, because knowing you, you'll wait until the last minute and make us miss our flight"
I stuck my tongue out at him and hobbled over to our bedroom to do what I was told.
Four in the morning is way too early to be at an airport. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to make early flights should be fired, if they aren't dead already. The seats in the airport were unreasonably small, I couldn't even lay my arms by my side. Niall wanted to be at our gate an hour before we took off, so I let him drag me out of bed and into our car to drive to the airport.
"I'm going to go walk around and see what they've got in the little shops, do you want anything?"
"A coffee would be nice, and maybe a packet of crisps or something, I didn't have time to get breakfast"
I nodded and grabbed my wallet before heading over to the coffee shop located in the center of the building. Coffee was one of the many things I missed, since I wasn't supposed to drink it while I was pregnant. The bittersweet aroma wafted into my nose as I stood waiting in line to order.
"Hi, what can I get for you?" The barista smiled at me, trying to mask the fact that it was way too early for this.
"I'll get a cup of whatever roast you have and a chai tea, please". I looked at the display case, and felt my mouth watering. "And a couple of those muffins, too. And a cinnamon roll"
"Right away, ma'am. You can have a seat over there and I'll call you when it's ready. Can I get a name for that?"
"Jenna". I sat in the comfy lounge chairs by the register, which were way comfier than the gate seats. I looked ridiculous, sitting there with my feet up in sweatpants and a huge t-shirt, but I didn't care. At eight and a half months, my appearance was the least of my problems. After a couple of minutes, my name was called and I grabbed the drink carrier that held our beverages. I walked back over to where Niall was sitting, and saw that he was sleeping with his head cupped in his hands. I didn't want to wake him, but I'd rather have that than his drink burning my hands any longer.
"Hey, I have your coffee. And I got you a muffin"
With that, he popped his head up and turned towards me with a goofy smile on his face.
