Who in the hell decided to make waiting rooms so cold?

I fidgeted in my seat as we waited for my name to be called. A whole bunch of other moms were here as well, waiting to get their little baby checked out. To pass the time, I mirrored Niall and grabbed a random magazine off of the coffee table. I flipped through the pages and saw loads of random crap: clothing sales, celebrity drama, and the newest dangerous internet trend. Bored out of my mind, I tapped my husband's shoulder to get his attention.

"How much longer?"

"Shouldn't be too much. Why don't you just play a game on your phone or something? I've got my golf article here, so I'm great until they call us up". I huffed and leaned back in the chair. No more than twenty seconds later, a nurse came out with a clipboard in his hand and called my name. Relieved, I stood up and walked over to the room, which was just down the hall. Our same doctor was sitting on her stool, awaiting us. I sat down in the examination chair as always and lifted up my sweatshirt.

"Somebody's excited, huh?"

"Oh, I know the drill by now.  I've been here enough times to know your next move"

"Really? And what would that be?"

"You have to ask me all those questions about my habits and such. Then you look at my belly, then the ultrasound, then my lady bits, and then I get out of here"

"Alright, I'm the obstetrician here, not you. But you're right, so, how have you been eating in these last few weeks?"

We went through the questions, my answers usually being the same as they have been. Then, it was time to see our baby again.

"Look at them! There's the head, looking nice, and we seem to be growing at an awesome rate. So, Jenna and Niall, do you want to know the sex of your baby today?"

We looked at each other with big grins on our faces. Immediately Niall pulled out his phone camera and started recording us.

"Yes, please!"

Dr. Montez smiled at me and zoomed in on the computer. She took a quick look at the tiny silhouette on the screen and turned back to face us.

"Congratulations, guys, you're having a boy!"

With the snap of a finger, both Niall and I were crying non-stop. Gender isn't something that was super important to us, especially since we both know he can choose to be whatever he wants to be, but it was still a really special moment and kind of humanized him.

"I'm gonna have a son. Another little Irish boy running around the house". I rolled my eyes, but couldn't help but gush at his excitement for our baby.

"Yeah, we are, aren't we? We're gonna be parents, blondie. Can you believe it?"

"I've been trying so hard to for the last five months, but it's still so surreal to me that we did that. We made a baby". He grasped my hands, placing a shaky kiss on them as he recovered.

"He's ours, all ours"

"And you're sure everything is ready over there? I know how you are"

I rolled my eyes at my sister's comment. Riley was the one who had planned my baby shower from start to finish, and she was very meticulous about her work.

"Yes, I've been done. Now would you hang up and hurry back here? The guests start arriving in two hours, and I need your help getting myself ready. And make sure you stop and pick up the cake at the bakery, it should be under my name"
