( CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR: COME
CLEAN )
July, 1990❝ we wasn't doing
anything bad. ❞◯
Oh, the shame, Devon thought, sitting on the edge of the bed with his shoulders drooping in pure guilt. The last time he's ever felt this embarrassed was when his mother caught him sneaking out of his window at two in the morning to go to a party. He nearly got away with it, if it weren't for the young man slipping on the roof's tiles and toppling down the two story building with a harsh fall. His ass was so clumsy. However, as Devon looked up from the floor and laid his soft brown eyes on the sight in front of him, he couldn't have been more mortified.
Tina paced around the room, fingers bunching around her tangled locks as she tried to form a suitable sentence. Devon knew she was mad, like really mad, and frankly he was frightened to see what she would do next. Janet sat next to him, as silent as one could be, her face rigid with exasperation as they both waited for Tina to speak. Devon liked to think that they could still get out of this unscathed, but the longer he stared at Tina's maddened face, his hope crumbled into dust.
"I can't believe you two," the female uttered out, the anger actively present in her tone. Devon winced in response, admittedly feeling the need to explain on their behalf, but the minute he opened his mouth he wished he never gained the courage. "We wasn't doing anything bad—"
"—Shut up!" Tina growled, causing for Devon's mouth to snap shut. "I'm not ready to talk to you yet!" The female added, pointing a firm finger in his direction. The male shrunk in his form, sheepishly looking away as the heat of her glare began to scorch through his skin. "How did you find out about us?" Janet meekly asked, her hooded eyes flickering up to give her friend a grim stare. Tina scoffed in response, a jarring train of laughter sliding passed her lips like broken glass.
"The real question is, how did I not find out about y'all sooner?" The latin woman exclaimed, crossly flicking her head in their direction. "First of all, Devon is a terrible ass liar," Tina exclaimed, causing for the young man to muster a look of offence, even though he knew deep down that it was true. "And not only are y'all loud as hell up in your rooms, but you walk around sweating all day, you disappear and show up at the same time and don't even get me started on the hickeys," the woman said in one breath, her face squeezing together in revulsion.
"Seriously, are you a fucking walrus or somethin'?" Tina continued, slanted eyes bolting towards the male with thinning aggression. Okay, ouch, Devon thought, frowning with visible disgruntlement. He wondered why Tina thought it was necessary to take all her frustration out on him. However, at the same time he thought about what it would be like in her shoes, where you found out that your two close friends were really sleeping together. Damn, I'd be pissed too.
