James smelled a scent in the house that didn’t belong here. Someone was in the house and they didn’t belong. He put down the plate he was about to take to Jocelyn and went to the stairs.
“Jocelyn” he called out.
She said nothing, he began walking up the stairs when she answered him back.
“I’ll be down in a minute.”
He heard the hesitation in her voice and continued silently up the steps. He stopped just outside the door when he heard her begin to speak.
“Who are you and what do you want from me?” she asked the stranger holding her hands protectively over her stomach.
“I don’t know why I expected your mother to tell you anything she was always a problem.” the stranger spoke with malice in her voice.
“She’s been dead since I was still a baby, so she couldn’t if she wanted to.” Jocelyn spat back with venom in her voice.
“Oh well she got what she deserved. Now you listen to me good girl unless you want someone else to end up like your father.”
His skin began to tingle and the hairs on the back of his neck and arm began to raise up. He saw the wild look in Jocelyn’s eyes and then heard a thump. He took that moment to walk into the room. He looked to where Jocelyn was staring. She had a woman pinned against the wall a dazed look in her eyes.
“Tell me why I shouldn’t kill you right now?” Jocelyn said to the woman ignoring my presence.
Beads of sweat were forming on her forehead and the rise and fall of her chest increased. He wanted to hold her in his arms and tell her to calm down but power coming off of her held him in his place.
“You don’t have what it takes, you’re just like your mother. Weak.”
A pained expression crossed the woman’s face the air was disappearing from the room. He could see it swirling like a ball in Jocelyn’s hand.
“Jocelyn.” he called out trying to gain her attention but stayed unnoticed
“Jocelyn.” he called again his voice firmer than before.
