Zircon. An unfortunate name for an unfortunate luxio. What kind of parents name their child after a fake gemstone? he often thought. He had always been above average, yet never the greatest. The "Master of Second Place" would be a perfect title for him.

"You're mine," he had whispered before following his rival and his crush into the woods. Sure, Tobias knew the woods, but he didn't live there. Zircon could easily navigate the woods, even in complete darkness, and could track nearly anything. As a predator, it came naturally to him.

As he tailed the two, he mentally taunted Tobias. You look lost. Do you know what's ahead? I do. You don't know it, but what lies in this part of the woods is dangerous to a small fox like you. He fantasized about Tobias stumbling into a houndoom and trying to act tough, but fleeing as soon as the canine bared teeth. Then Zircon would leap in and save the girl, leaving her no choice but to love him. A flawless plan, really.

He snickered when Tobias tripped over a root and fell on his face. "Oh, I almost feel bad for you," Zircon whispered. "Almost."
