                                                 Liana's POV

"Are you sure you brought everything?" questioned Lillie as I fumbled to catch a falling glass vial. It dropped in her hand with a soft thump and she put it back in my backpack. "Why are the flasks we're using to capture the -" I paused for a second to indicate that I had no idea what I should call a group of 'Tapu Koko's cry, Tapu Lele's scales, Tapu Bulu's chime, and Tapu Fini's dance'. "Made of glass?" I continued. Lillie gave me an odd look as we started down the rocky road, noises of the cooing and shuffling of Pokemon all around us as she snuck a look back at the mansion. "If we used wood, for example, or any living thing, or metal, which has once been underground, it will either poison the liquids from the Island Guardians or suck all the life out of it, making it nothing but water, in the case of wood," I didn't follow what she said, but nodded because I didn't want to torture my brain anymore. I needed to save some energy for the rest of the journey, apparently unlike Lillie. I considered myself clever enough, but she had a never-ending stream of mental power that made me wonder how she kept it all in. We turned out of the dusty path and into the lush forests. Bug-types and Grass-types crawled and walked around, and occasionally a Flying Pokemon would flutter by. Draping vines and cool breezes were all around, circling the tall, majestic trees lazily. It was so beautiful that I almost forgot what I was there for. Eventually, we reached a clearing filled with beautiful wildflowers in all the colors of the rainbow. "We can eat hear," the platinum-blonde's voice was raspy from the hour she had spent not saying a single word. "Alright!" I enthused, nestling into the fragrant flowers and breathing in their scent.

It was so powerful that it made my eyes water, but I continued to pull out a tin of Pokemon food and a cold sandwich. "Let's go, everyone!" I shouted, flinging nine Pokéballs in the air with a dramatic flourish of my hand. Lillie giggled as she spread out a plaid cotton blanket on the floor and patted Snowy's hair. "Must be nice being able to throw multiple Pokéballs in the air," she said, almost wistfully. My hand froze in the position of it about to feed Jolteon. "Thanks," he said gratefully, nipping it out of my fingers. I carefully distributed the rest between the remaining Eeveelutions and turned to her. "You only have one Pokemon?" I asked in disbelief. Her green eyes held hurt as she raised them to my level. "I'm not all too good at battling," she said, running her hand over her white skirt. "So I can't catch Pokemon. But I'm fine with only Snowy," Must be lonely, I thought sadly. A loud caw rang through the air and we both turned to face a Pokemon. It was floating above the ground and had a sort of shell that protected it. Lillie inhaled sharply. "Tapu Koko," the wind carried my words away as we sat, unmoving. I was the first to spring into action. "Vaporeon!" I shouted. The blue-finned Pokemon jolted up and yelped as it ran to my side. "Water-types are weak against Electric-types like Tapu Koko," she reminded me. I gave her an assuring smile and turned back to our battle. "Alright! Mega-Evolve!" my silver bracelet glittered and long strands of opal light strung me to the Bubble Jet Eeveelution, which began to glow the same color. Lillie watched, amazed, as it grew larger and more imposing, finally settling in a figure with darker fins and a circlet of rock rotating around her slender neck. "Vaporeon!" she shrieked.

Tapu Koko was obviously an intelligent Pokemon. Eying me warily, it suddenly lunged forward with a Brave Bird. I gritted my teeth and murmured softly under my breath. "Dodge," Vaporeon flopped ungracefully out of the way, but it was enough to avoid the powerful Flying-type attack. The Melemele Island Guardian barreled into my Pokemon with a Spark, but it had no effect but to send Vaporeon scattering behind. "Are you okay?" I called. "Vapor!" she replied, standing up. "A Ground-type?" mused Lillie behind me. "Counterattack! Use Mud Shot!" I screeched to her. Balls of earth shot towards Tapu Koko and hit it from behind. Being a very powerful Pokemon, it affected it little, but enough to lower its usual blinding speed. A smile crept into the corners of my mouth. "Now Bulldoze!" The plates of the ground began shifting, which didn't hurt the aloft Pokemon at all. "Let's go!" I suddenly shrieked, watching as Vaporeon jumped impossibly high and slammed her tail into the ground with great force. The large pieces of flower-embedded earth richoted upwards and she darted gracefully up each one, using them as stepping-stones. Eventually, she reached Tapu Koko and slammed into it using its tail again. The action wasn't actually a move, but it crashed into it and smacked it into the flower-carpeted floor. I memorized its cry, letting it fill my heart and be the air that filled my lungs. Something burned inside me, a power that I had never felt before. Brimming inside my body, making me see gold. "Use Tectonic Rage!" I screamed, even though I had no Z-Crystal, nor a Z-Ring. Vaporeon knew what to do. It burrowed in the ground and suddenly Tapu Koko was falling. The Bubble Jet Pokemon shot up and forcibly slammed into it. "Koko!" it gave a strangled cry and fell back, unable to battle. "Yes!" I cried victoriously, high fiving Vaporeon's tail. She reverted back to her usual form and snuggled affectionately against my leg. The Island Guardian rose and started speaking to me.

You have harnessed the Z-Power surrounding us. Every time you need it, just feel that power, that immense energy, and every Z-Move will be at your disposal. A Z-Crystal and Z-Ring is not needed for a rare Trainer like you. Tapu Koko said telepathically. Thank you. I responded. It gave a final, noble shriek and flew away. "Oh my Arceus!" whispered Lillie, who had been watching quietly. "Amazing right?" I asked in wonder. She hugged me and withdrew, her minty breath against my neck. "But what about 'Tapu Koko's cry'?" she pouted. I brought out a vial and thought of the Island Guardian. Its sound filled me again, and I was jolted back into reality by the sound of liquid sloshing against glass. I looked down and was astonished to see it filled to the brim with sparkling, yellow-pink fluid. "Wow," muttered my friend, staring at the flask. I exhaled and turned my gaze to the setting sun. "We were gone for that long?" I asked. "Mmm," she replied, corking the vial and replacing the first part of our journey in my backpack. "Akala is next," I stated, feeling cool breeze blow gently against my face. I replaced all my Pokemon in their Pokéballs and slid them into a large pouch. Then I turned into an Espeon and lifted both of us, Snowy perched on her shoulder, into the air. "I'll never get used to this," she murmured as we flew across the dusky sky. This is for Ash. I thought to myself. Whenever I pictured him near Mallow, my fists shook. I love you, and I hope you love me too. That is why I will take that spell off you, no matter what.
