maybe there was something pulling them towards each other, like a strong force in the universe that likes to play with humans as if they were dolls; pushing giselle to wherever rodrick was and it was starting to weird her out.

giselle was an idealist and her imagination roamed constantly, she couldn't help how her mind worked. when it thought of something, it usually began to collect different string of realities that could possibly relate to that specific thought, and ever since that sunday at church. rodrick was one of them.

maybe she was just being stupid, she thought to herself. these meetings were just mere coincidences, they just happened to have started after their meeting at the roller rink. life was full of coincidences. giselle thought of how she never really noticed rodrick before, so seeing him quite often ever since that night was definitely weird.

she tried her best to push those theories away, but they kept coming back to bother her.

it seems like her thoughts were being tested once again, when the sound of a busted engine snapped her out of her daze. she looked up from her drawing pad, her delicate shading being disrupted by the booming noise.

just her luck, it was the person who had been running through her mind all day.

rodrick heffley groaned, hitting the side of the van in attempt to get it started up again. his face looked frustrated, giving the impression that this wasn't the first time his vehicle acted up. giselle couldn't deny how run down it looked from the way exhaust fumes poured out of it like fog.

giselle watched questioningly as he repeatedly whacked it from his window. it was not the most appealing sight and she sure as hell wouldn't be able to concentrate on her drawing with all the loud ruckus.

"damn it!" rodrick gave up, slumping down in his seat.

"ever tried turning it off then on again?" giselle spoke up, catching the boy by surprise.

she was beginning to take notice the way he acted when he saw her. it was the usual flinch, deer in headlight type of eyes and the uneasy expression that radiated off in his appearance. he wasn't really as sly as he tried to be.

"trust me it won't work," rodrick replied, sighing.

"you sure?" giselle questioned, "i mean it with no offense, but i don't think hitting the side has anything to do with the engine." she explained, trying to keep her tone as timid as possible. giselle didn't want to come off as patronizing or condescending, it was what people always thought of her each time she suggested something. she did have a reputation for coming off as a know it all in school and giselle tried her best to not let that define her but it was hard.

rodrick stared back at the girl with the same soft expression he always wore when he looked at her. it made giselle feel kind of flushed, he wasn't gawking at her like an animal and she appreciated it that, but she just wasn't used to constant eye contact. most guys usually did gawk at her, especially after they find out she goes to st. mary's prep where they wear plaid skirts and polo shirts.

"uh, okay," he said, turning the van off. "i'll give it a try."

giselle smiled, glad that her suggestion was being considered as she watched rodrick slowly turn the van back on. this time the engine blared normally and no longer sounded like a dying robot.

"shit, that actually worked." the boy beamed, he would have hated if his precious baby died right then and there. "thank you."

"it's no problem," giselle replied, picking up her pencil again to start drawing but the sound of rodrick's voice stopped her once again.

"uh ..actually..i wanted to say," he started off, "that i'm sorry again for the whole roller rink thing."

giselle looked back at him, feeling her cheeks heat up. "oh, no, it's fine. don't worry about it."

rodrick shrugged, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly. "yeah i know, but i felt it would've been better if i said it in person."

"no, i totally get it." giselle nodded. "i appreciate that, thank you."

"oh of course you're welcome," he said, his hands patting the steering wheel. he looked like he was thinking of what else to say, as he pursed his lips and sighed solemnly. "for the record, just to make things clear.."

"yeah?"

rodrick looked back at giselle, a goofy grin plastered on his lips. he really did look shy, the girl thought to herself. "i wasn't stalking you or anything." he explained, "i just noticed we've met at this same exact spot like 3 times now and i just don't want you to think..i'm like invading..you know your privacy..because i would never..i mean never do tha—"

"—rodrick" giselle interrupted his babbling, letting out a chuckle at how nervous he was explaining himself. "it's okay, i wasn't thinking it." she smiled.

rodrick grinned, "really? okay, great. uh, i gotta go now." he said, "mom's making dinner."

"of course, go on!" she ushered, "don't want to keep her waiting."

"exactly!" he chuckled.

there was a short silence between them when giselle remembered the events of sunday. her and rodrick cracking up at the sight of greg defending himself until much to her shock, the younger heffley had jumped at rodrick causing quite the ruckus in front of the whole church.

"uh, i hope you and your brother are okay," she said, "it must've been tense after sunday.."

rodrick's face fell in embarrassment. damn, he was hoping she'd have forgotten all about that but sadly here she was.

he stammered for a bit before speaking up, "oh you know..it's cool..he's a little dweeb."

giselle chuckled, it was probably a sibling thing she thought to herself. "well don't want to keep your mom waiting."

"yeah, you're right. uh, i'll see ya around!"he said, before driving off.

giselle smiled to herself watching him nervously drive off, it was very evident in the way he presented himself that she made him timid and giselle couldn't even notice the impact of their interaction on the both of them. here she was starting to get used to his presence and he couldn't get his mind off of the way she said his name.

giselle chuckled, grabbing her phone and turning it on. she noticed rodrick's new post and instantly found herself smiling like an idiot at the photo. poor kid probably gets fooled constantly by his older brother, she thought.
