Its been a few days since she had been riding. Bea took shelter in caves and behind well hidden bushes and slept there. She still didn't find a town and was upset by that.
Lost in thought, she started galloping.
* I wonder how mother and father are faring. I'm worried about them. Oh! How I miss Bryan. I hope they are all safe. *
She started thinking about her family, her friends and her people, the days when she would disguise herself as a common girl and sneak out with Blake, pranking the people and having fun. She remembered the chocolate lava cakes that were sold by the baker. She remembered the family times when they would all sit on their parents bed and talk and laugh. Her eyes rimmed with tears at the thought of her dear family, hoping they were safe and able to withstand Alistair.
Augustus suddenly halted, jerking Bea forward. She gripped onto his neck tightly, her eyes closed and her heart beating rapidly against her chest.
Only when she opened her eyes did she realise what had happened.
They were at the edge of a cliff.
Augustus slowly backed up. When they were at a safe distance from the cliff, Bea exhaled a breath she didn't know she was holding.
She slowly got down and went and sat under a tree.
She could not hold it anymore.
All the tears she had been holding tumbled down her cheeks, falling on her hands.
*Does this really have to happen? Why can't we be happy and peaceful? I'm sorry mother, you told me to be brave, but I can't,not anymore. I'm scared. Really scared. I don't know where I am. I don't know how long will I be stuck in this forest. I don't know when will I reach the next town. I miss you so much mother. I need you .*
She cries harder, thinking of her mother. With trembling hands she brings her knees closer to her head and leans on them, crying and rocking back and forth.
Suddenly there was a bright light around her. She looked around her, her eyes wide with the fear of being found by one of Alistair's soldiers, but no one was there.
She slowly got up, alerted by this bright light. Augustus was strangely looking at her.
“What are you looking at?”
She turns around to see if anyone was there. She raises her eyebrows. No one was there. The light was still there. She turned back. Her eyebrow raised.
“What is it that you're looking at Augustus?"
She then realized that he was looking at her. She then looked down.
There, her pendant was glowing. It was a silver chain with a silver lotus in the middle. Her name was engraved behind it. Beatrice. A Blue light emerged from it. It was beautiful.
