Katie's POV:
"Katie?!" He repeated at least five times.
I was left speechless.
"Urm, I'll..have the..erm..caramel latte please." I said, hardly being able to get my words out. "Go and sit down and I'll bring it right over!" He said with a little smile.
I did as he said. I was scared of him. He was the one that beat me when I was younger. The reason why me and my mum don't have the perfect mother-daughter relationship. Nevertheless, he tore the whole family apart with what he did to me. He's the reason why I was so hesitant on my date with Luke, half of the reason behind me self harming.
He's been locked up in prison since I was 13 because of what he did to me. I just hope he's changed.
He started to walk over with my latte. "Here you go Katie, enjoy." He said with yet another small smile. "Thank you, Dad. If it's alright to call you that?" I asked quietly. "Of course it is."
He was about to walk off when he suddenly turned back around and sat opposite to me. I flinched.
"Katie, I want you to know that since I've been locked up, I've had help. I am no longer the man I used to be. I'm so sorry about what I did to you and that I pretty much messed up your childhood. It's a big ask, but could you at least try and find it in yourself to forgive me and maybe give me a second chance? So I can be the dad I was meant to be?" What he said was a lot to take in.
"Dad, you haven't been the best of dads, let's just say that. But mum hasn't been the best of mums either, well really, she hasn't been a mum at all. I'm just a dartboard to her like I used to be to you. I never knew I'd miss you this much when you went to prison, but I did. I'm willing to forgive you and give you that second chance. Just please, don't mess it up?" I said trying to hold back my tears. Dad looked a bit teary himself if I'm honest.
"I will do whatever it takes to have my daughter back. How about you stay here until I finish work and you can come back to my flat to have dinner?" He asked me. "But what about mum?" I asked nervously. "Don't worry about her, I'll take you home to explain." He smiled again.
I'm looking forward to this if I'm honest. I hope he's telling the truth though.
