EPILOGUE

⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆

"Just catching my breath," Edmund lied to cover up that Phillip, his greying horse, was having trouble keeping up with the others.

His siblings, the Kings and Queens of Narnia, circled back to see him, "Well," Susan chimed, "That's all we'll catch at this rate."

"What did he say again, Susan?" Lucy asked with a smile on her face, gripping the reins in her hand tightly.

Her older sister just laughed lightly before beginning to mock Edmund, "You girls wait in the castle, I'll get the stag myself."

"What's this?" King Peter asked as he jumped down from his horse to investigate a black lamppost covered in vines, "It seems familiar."

He was soon joined by his three siblings as they surrounded the structure.

"As if from a dream," Susan whispered out as she stared intently at the flame.

Lucy took one step closer, "Or a dream of a dream," realisation washed over her face as she took off running, skirts in hand, "Spare Oom."

"Lucy!"

"Not again! Lu?"

"Come on!" the girl cheered as she pushed the spring leaves and branches out of her face as they all started to run through the forest trees that started to turn into the old pine ones from all those years ago, they still held the smell of fresh snow and winter solstice.

"These aren't branches," Peter uttered as he touched something much softer than tree bark, almost as if it was fur.

Another whisper escaped Susan's pursed lips, "They're coats."

"Susan!" Edmund whined as he felt a sharp pain in his foot, "You're on my foot!"

"Peter! Move!"

"Stop shoving!"

"Stop it!"

"I'm not on your toe!"

Suddenly, all four bodies, now much younger than they were before, collided with a wooden door and were sent flying into a familiar room, one that seemed so distant in their memories as if it hadn't been a dream but an actual occurrence for them.

Something sparked within Peter's mind, something that he wished he hadn't thought of. Because for the next year as he was trapped in England, he wouldn't be able to shake the idea of it from his mind.

"I didn't get to say goodbye," the tears welled up in his blue eyes, "I didn't see Alex before I left."

The door to the room rattled before an old man stepped in, his hair still white and his glasses a polished gold, "Oh, there you all are. Now, what were you all doing in the wardrobe?"

"You wouldn't believe us even if we told you, sir," Peter caught the ball that the man passed to him.

It all seemed to go quiet, "Try me."

So they did, the Pevensie children told them stories from all their years in Narnia. How they were chased by wolves, lead a battle against an enemy and freed the land, but more importantly the tales of a Crimson Knight; ones that brought tearful smiles onto Digory Kirke's face.
