Manami's POV:
I bounded down the stairs. Today I was going to do something. Something that's so serious that in any other normal school it'll get me expelled. It's dangerous, but I needed to do it.
How else was I supposed to get into E-class?
When I entered the living room, however, I was greeted by the sight of my best friend sitting in front of ten different colours of hair dye. She seemed to have noticed my intense gaze as she looked up and gestured me to come closer.
"Hey, Manami-Chan? Which colour do you think I should dye my hair?" Akari asked me.
How about you don't dye it at all? As soon as the thought had come to my head, I shook it off.
I surveyed the colours sitting on the table one by one.
Blue. Red. Orange. Pink. Brown. Purple. Black. Blonde. Ginger. Green. They were all there.
Akari saw that my gaze was on a particular colour and followed it.
"What about green?" I pointed at the dull, pastel shade.
"Good choice." She nodded, picking it up.
I walked into the kitchen, about to start making our breakfast, but Akari quickly stopped me.
"Do you wanna dye your hair too? You said you didn't want to gain attention. So why not dye it black or something?"
"Sounds great. But how about I get to school first?" I suggested, slightly impatient.
I don't have time for this.
Akari huffed.
"Fine. Be like that then."
Rolling my eyes at her childishness, I started pouring the batter of pancake mix that I had placed in the fridge last night.
We spent the next few minutes in silence, only the sound of sizzling coming from the pan filled the air.
"Akari-" I started, only to get interrupted immediately.
"Kaede Kayano."
I raised an eyebrow in puzzlement.
"My new stage name will be Kaede Kayano." She explained, noticing my confusion. My mouth formed an 'o' shape in understanding.
"...I guess that makes sense." I nodded.
Remembering why I had called out her name in the first place, I started talking while lifting the pancakes off of the pan.
"Aka- Kaede, does it hurt?" I asked her, correcting myself halfway.
Seeing her stiffen at the unexpected question, I could immediately tell I had hit the mark. Being an acting prodigy, I expected her reaction to being a little less evident.
"Does what hurt?" Kaede had relaxed her previously stiff posture in seconds, opting to choose the oblivious route.
I once again rolled my eyes at her idiocy.
"Kaede do you really think you can fool me? I have an IQ of 158, meaning simple lies cannot deceive me."
Kaede grit her teeth in annoyance. She knew full well of my capabilities. She only doesn't like to acknowledge them.
And I'm aware of another person exactly like her.
Mentally shaking off the bitter thoughts, I walked towards Kaede, pancakes in hand, still waiting for an answer. Finally, Kaede had sighed, giving up on resistance.
"I have a headache so bad it feels like someone took a hammer and bashed my bare brain with it. Also my neck, it's like there's a knife continuously stabbing me. Not to mention, my whole body feels hot, but my neck is freezing. I hate it." She confessed.
Feeling slight worry for my best friend, I thought of something that might help her.
"I could whip up a chemical that has a similarity to painkillers. That might help a bit and make the pain more bearable." I proposed.
Even if Kaede refused, I would've done it. Despite my cold attitude, I can't bear to see my best friend in pain.
"If you have the time it would be nice. Thank you, Manami-Chan."
I smiled, a genuine one.
~~~~~~~~~~~After School~~~~~~~~~~~
A chilling atmosphere hung in the air, matching nicely with the darkness of the large, empty office. I stood in front of the principal's desk, my stony face concealing my real emotions of fear.
"You're a smart girl, so I figure that you know why you're already here." His cold voice echoed off of the walls in the vacant space.
"If I was stupid, I would still know the reason." I shot back wittily.
His eyes narrowed, and one of his creepy fake smiles etched onto his face. The room instantly felt colder, so much that I had to hold back my shiver.
"Nice to know your sharp mouth remains despite the situation you're facing. I assumed your new father taught you some manners?" The principal spoke in a sarcastic tone.
That comment had struck something in me.
"He's not my dad. He's an asshole." I responded in a cold hiss. "Don't disrespect my real dad by associating that title to a filthy rat."
Amusement danced in the grown man's muted violet eyes.
"My my, how harsh you are. Moving on from this topic, let's address the elephant in the room."
A rush of mischief in my veins replaced my annoyance, and I couldn't hold back from making an irrelevant remark.
"But I can't see the elephant." I snorted at my own joke.
Pathetic, I know.
The principal gave me a deadpanned expression, exasperated at my ways. He sighed and massaged his temples, and I let out another snort seeing his hilarious reaction.
"It's surprising how quickly you can change the mood, Okuda-Chan." He said sweetly. I cringed at his unsettlingly sweet voice and his annoying Okuda-Chan.
Tension quickly occupied the air again after the comment he made. Coming back to the entire reason I was standing in front of him in the first place, I was gestured to sit down.
Goddamn finally. I thought bitterly.
"You do understand the seriousness if your actions earlier this day, yes?"
I nodded.
"And I'm guessing you also know the consequences that you will have to face?"
Rolling my eyes, I nodded again.
"Listen Okuda-Chan. You're a very smart girl, smarter than my own son, so I'm giving you a choice."
Get to the point.
"Do you want to stay on the main campus?"
I smirked.
"I think you already know my answer, Principal."
A/N I know what you're thinking. 'Omg Ryhana wtf why did you take so long to update you incompetent fool. And why is this shit so short smh'
And yes, I'm thinking the exact same thing. I can't use school as an excuse because even in quarantine I did literally nothing. It took me half a year just to get up 4 chapters and now I'm seriously considering unpublishing this and getting my shit together before republishing it.
But Nah, I wanna at least get to 10 chapters before doing that.
