Evelyn widened her eyes as she held her breath

Evelyn widened her eyes as she held her breath. She did not expect him to be here and she wondered how he knew where she lived. "Stefan..." he smiled softly at her. "What are you doing here?"

"I came to talk to you." Short and simple. Evelyn, alarmed, took a tiny step back. She thought he was going to compel the memory of him killing Vicki from her mind. Stefan noticing, began to speak up, "it's nothing serious. I just wanted to see how you're feeling... after tonight."

Evelyn let out a breath she didn't know she was holding, as she sank her shoulders. "I've never seen someone die in front of my eyes before. I guess you could consider me lucky, right?" Her eyes began to water. "That in all my 17 years of living, I haven't experienced what it felt like to see the life drain from someone's eyes," she rambled on, shaking slightly. Stefan frowned, aching to comfort her. "Do you feel remorse?" Stefan tilted his head, waiting for her to explain. "Do you feel remorse when you kill someone?"

Stefan knew it was coming to this. He knew that she thought of him as a monster. Why wouldn't she? He had just killed one of her childhood friends. "Yes," he whispered as he glanced down for a second. "I remember what it felt like to kill for the first time," he explained as flashbacks of his father's lifeless body came to mind. "I remember all of them." He gazed into her eyes with guilt and sorrow, as he thought about his beautiful Eliza. Her eyes opened and scared- lifeless right beneath him.

Evelyn frowned. She didn't expect him to admit it right in front of her. But I guess that's what differed between him and his brother. Stefan, still had his humanity together.

Silence overtook the young teenagers, before Stefan spoke up again, "how's your neck?" He asked as he looked at her neck that had now turned to a slight purple bruise.

Evelyn quick brought her hand to her neck. "Honestly, I completely forgot that I was attacked," she admitted with a humourless laugh, as silence overtook them again. Evelyn thought about her next move and she didn't know if she was going to regret it, but she still said it anyway. "Did you wanna come in?" She suggested as Stefan widened his eyes ever so lightly. "It's cold outside. We can talk in the living room."

Even though she just exposed herself to the dangers of inviting a vampire into her home, she needed someone to talk to. She needed someone to understand what she was going through, even if that other person wasn't human and could potentially be dangerous.

She couldn't just speak to her sister about the situation. She wasn't going to involve Caroline – even though she had been involved previously. In a way, she felt somewhat guilty for not telling her sister; her best friend; and her confidant about what was going on in her life. Right from the time they could talk, they told each other everything. There was no secrets buried beneath the sandboxes that they already didn't know. And that's why Evelyn was having a rough time not telling Caroline everything since the Salvatore brothers came to town. She deserved the truth- more than anybody else. Evelyn knew one day she would tell her sister, but she didn't know when that time would be. All she knew was that she would try to protect her twin with all of her fibre. Even if that meant taking a bullet for the one she loved.
