Her bathing suit and tats >>
"I did not sign up for this." I heard Gwen say.
"Really?" I asked, feeling her gaze dart to me. "Was the signature forged? If you were forced to be here I can get you out of a bind."
Her eyes suddenly narrowed with a crease of her brows, throwing me off my guard for a moment as if I had said something to offend her. My lips pierced, stepping back awkwardly not knowing if I was supposed to say something. There was no telling what it was that I had done to upset her. It looks like I'm already making enemies.
"Can you not tell the difference between literal and metaphorical?"
"Désolé, non." I apologized quickly. "Sometimes I find things difficult to understand. Like Lindsay, I find some communication difficult to understand. I take things more literally."
"What? So you're like... a little slow, I get it." Gwen said quickly making me tense. My jaw unconventionally clenches, my hands balling into fists as everything suddenly fizzles to an alarming halt.
How could she say that? No, nothing about me was slow. It was in fact the opposite. Everything was moving too fast. Everything moves too fast, and all at once, clashing together at the same time like a warzone that was contained in my brain. The staring from everyone becoming painfully noticeable, and the cameras in the background were only making it worse.
It was a terrible idea coming here. How could I have thought to win like this if I already have a mental shutdown before the game hardly begins? People were bound to find out and think differently of me. This couldn't be like high school. I barely lived through that alone there. There was no way that was going to be allowed here.
"Non I'm... I— " I tried to ease the conversation, but I didn't prepare for a moment like this.
My brain was trying to find something to say. My lips couldn't stay quiet forever. However, my words fell short and my voice felt heavy. She was staring at me too long and the uneasiness waved off of me feeling amazingly overwhelmed all of a sudden.
I had to say something. She's staring at me weird with judgment in her eyes. My words fumbled out, forgetting that I was supposed to remain calm and collected, but that never works. "Yeah, yep. I am... not the fastest person alive but peregrine falcons are the fastest to consider in the animal kingdom topping two hundred and forty two miles per hour of speed in hunting dives. My dives are roughly worth a small quarter of that."
"Okay? Who said we were diving?" Gwen raised a brow questionably, her eyes glued to me making me more uncomfortable.
"Well, we are at the edge of the cliff." I pointed out blankly, my fingers playing with each other to calm my nervousness and regulate my senses.
"Um, do not do my job. That's my job." Chris said before announcing the challenge. "Today's challenge is three-fold. Your first task is to jump off this 1,000-foot-high cliff into the lake."
"Piece of cake." Bridgette said from beside me.
"Oui, it's a simple straight shot." I confirmed.
"If you look down, you will see two target areas." Chris said where we all looked down to the waters. "The wider area represents the part of the lake that we have stocked with psychotic man-eating sharks. Inside that area is a safe zone. That's your target area, which, we're pretty sure is shark free."
"Excuse me?" asked LeShawna.
"For each member of your team that jumps and actually survives, there will be a crate of supplies waiting below." Chris explained. "Inside each crate are supplies that you'll need for the second part of the challenge: building a hot tub. The team with the best one gets to have a wicked hot-tub party tonight. The losers will be sending someone home. Let's see, Killer Bass, you're up first."
