Devon was finally released from the hospital, though his shoulder was still bandaged. It hurt him to move his left shoulder, so I was careful to stay away from that side, staying on his right. I was his right arm girl. I smiled as we walked out to the Impala waiting for me. My parents understood, somewhat, what I was going through. Of course, I couldn't tell them the whole story, seeing as it would put them in danger. Also, they would probably keep me away from Devon. Still, my parents brought my Impala here and brought me food, and clothes. Casey visited and brought both of our homework. We were both caught up in school work as we walked out of the hospital, hand in hand. Well, actually, Devon wasn't going to do his, seeing as he got a job for life, but I made him. As we left, Macy came running up to us.
"Sam!" We stopped and she caught up. "I just wanted to tell you that I've been thinking about what you've done for one of our agents, and I was thinking about the potential you've shown, and all you'd need is just a little bit of training, and you'd be set." She looked over at me hopefully.
I thought about it. It'd be cool, plus I'd be with Devon. This could be life long job, and would probably pay nicely, and I could use some extra cash. I opened my mouth to answer when Devon spoke up, "No."
I turned on him, "What?"
"I said no. There is no way you're going to do something that dangerous," he said in that angers calm voice of his. I growled.
"You have no right to do that! I can make my own choices!" Who did he think he was? He's not my mother or father. Why would he think that I would listen to him anyway? Just because I'm his girlfriend doesn't mean he can decide things for me. I turned Macy. "I'd like to do it."
Macy smiled weakly, then looked from Devon to me, "Are you sure you want to be an agent?"
Devon held up a hand, telling Macy to wait, "We need to talk." He pulled me over a little ways so Macy couldn't hear. I tapped my foot impatiently, motioning for him to go on. "You can't. This is too dangerous."
Oh, no, he did not just-he did. "Dangerous? No, really? You don't think I know that? Just a few hours ago, I was sitting at gunpoint and you were lying unconscious beside me. Do you know that? I had to pick up your gun and kill someone. I killed someone! Do you not understand? I haven't been hardened and trained, and yet I killed! I know what you go through. Do you think that I want anything to happen to you? No! I could help you! I could be under cover agent. Hidden identity, and nobody will ever know! I could be your back up." He looked like he wanted to talk. "Please," I added in a whisper.
Devon ran his good hand through his hair, sighing. I sighed dreamily as I watched him, before remembering I was supposed to be mad at him. Devon looked off into space, thinking. Finally he turned back to me. "Okay," he said slowly. I smiled. "But on these conditions." I nodded. "You stay under cover. You only fight when needed. You don't fight until you're fully trained. You do everything I say." I nodded eagerly, throwing my arms around his neck, being careful not to accidentally hurt his arm. He smiled down at me. He leaned down, brushing his lips against mine, losing me for a while.
"Ahem." We turned and saw Macy. I felt my whole face heat up. I smiled sheepishly. "So,I'm assuming because you two are kissing that you have reached a conclusion?" It came out as a question but really was more of a statement. We nodded in sync. "Well?"
"I'll do it!"
"On some conditions." Devon tightened his arm around my waist. I looked up at him to see a mix of pride and worry on his face. I smiled up at him. He smiled a little before continuing on. "She has to remain extremely under cover, like top secret. She stick around, but only fight when needed, and she'll have to follow my orders."
