"How many?" I watched his face as Macy questioned him.
Macon sighed in defeat, "Probably a thousand of us all over." Macy let no emotion show on her face, but her legs tensed, telling me she was surprised. Macy simply nodded, "We know that." Not a lie. Now we do know that.
Macy continued on as I looked around, observing everybody. Macon looked broken as he sat on the ground in chains, and I watched for any signs that he was lying. It wasn't too easy, seeing as he's only someone who I met by capturing. Macy, I knew. Macy, I could tell you anything. Same with all of the guys. Macon was a mystery, that I almost had down. His eyes widened ever so slightly when he was scared, and his ears turned red when he was angry. All of a sudden, I watched his pulse jump on his neck. I held up my hand, motioning for Macy to pause. I looked Macon in the eye, "Lie to me, what do we call you?"
"M-Macon."
"No, I mean it, lie to me. This isn't a trick question. Make up anything you want, now again, what do we call you?" I turned my eyes to his neck.
"Molly." Behind me the guys laughed and his whole face turned redder, but that wasn't what I was focusing on. His pulse had jumped when he answered.
"Now, answer me truthfully, what do we call you?" My eyes flitted up to his, before settling back on his neck.
"Macon." There was no jump. The guys all watched me as I studied Macon.
"I don't think you're one to lie to me are you Macon?" I crooned in a sweet voice, making my fingers dance across his face and down towards his neck. "Especially when I can tell when you're lying to me." My finger hit his pulse and I tapped on it. "Now Macy, please repeat your question."
"Do you have a family?"
"No." I sighed, watching his pulse jump again. I turned to Macy.
"He does have a family." His eyes widened a little bit and I looked at him. "You're trying to protect your family, which is all nice and good, but your family will get more protection with us. We won't harm them, I promise." He looked up at me, confusion on his face. "I don't threaten families. I try to keep them together. This way your family can stay here, in good rooms, and see you every day."
His face split into a grin, "Oh thank you! Thank you very much!" I smiled at his gratitude. I had a feeling that this Rogue guy was threatening Macon's family. Macon reached his hand up to me. I hesitated before extending my hand down to meet his. He shook my hand vigorously. "I'll tell you everything I know."
Behind me, I heard Derrek sigh, and I turned to see anger on his face. He caught me looking and his face quickly changed to an emotionless mask. I watched him carefully for a second before turning back to Macon. Something was very off with Derrek. I knew he didn't talk much, but lately, he's been cutting himself off from us, and I was going to find out why.
I returned my attention back to Macon, who gave us the location of his family. As I watched Macon, he looked nervously at the guys, especially Derrek. There was definitely something weird going on here. We sent some of the other undercover agents to go get his family.
I pulled Devon aside, away from everyone else, locking us in a sound proof room. "I don't trust Derrek."
"What?" He sounded incredulous. Great, he didn't believe me. I looked him in the eye.
"I don't think Derrek is who we think he is."
Devon watched me before saying, "Why would you think that? He's one of the best guys on the team and is great at getting information."
"How do you think he gets it? Why do you think it's so detailed? Why is it sometimes wrong in the most inconvenient ways?" The more I went on, the more I was sure of one thing: Derrek was working with rogue.
