The Alignment of the Twin Stars

The sky over the old land of Calastro did not make any loud thunder when the world changed. Instead, everything became completely quiet. The wild animals froze because they were scared. The air felt heavy and cold, like glass. High up in the sky, far above the clouds where even the best mages could not reach, two strange stars appeared. They were perfectly opposite each other. One was a bright golden star. It burned so brightly that it turned the dark night into bright day. Directly across from it, a black star tore through the sky. It was made of pure darkness, and it actively swallowed all the light around it.

A line connected the two stars across the big sky. Half of the line was bright gold, and the other half was black stone. This line hummed with a strong power that made the ground shake. The Twin Stars were now in a straight line. This ended three hundred years of quiet time, and the old prophecy finally began.

In the north, high up on the sunny mountains, stood the Vale Sanctuary. The air smelled like burning herbs, and a hundred priests were chanting happily. For a very long time, the people there had prepared for these stars to line up. They built big crystals to catch the light of the golden star. Suddenly, a newborn baby boy cried out inside the white palace. The crystals did not just reflect the starlight-they exploded with color! Bright gold light danced across the stone walls. The baby's skin felt warm, and when he opened his eyes, they shone a brilliant blue like the clear summer sky.

The High Priest fell to his knees. His hands shook as he lifted the baby toward the glass ceiling.

"He is here!" the old man cried happily. His voice was so loud that thousands of people waiting outside could hear him. "His name is Caelum, the Bringer of Dawn. He is the long-awaited light who will protect our children, rule the skies, and keep us safe forever. The prophecy chose our family!"

Everyone became incredibly happy. They started big parties, rang the city bells, and wore beautiful white and gold clothes. They were sure they were safe now. They painted pictures of the boy standing on mountains, chasing away monsters with his hands. They built a happy kingdom around his cradle. However, they were completely blind to the fact that a dark balancing force was being born on the other side of the world.

Three thousand miles to the south, deep in the dark and foggy valley of the Ashcroft family, a second boy was born. But this birth brought so much horror that the whole family became totally silent. The Ashcroft home was made of dark stone and had old traditions. But nothing had prepared them for the freezing cold that came with the baby's first breath.

The moment the boy was born, the magic energy in the room froze. The big fireplace, which had burned for a hundred years, flickered once and died into black ash. The torches on the walls did not go out from the wind; they were swallowed by shadows. The nurses jumped backward in the pitch-black dark. The air became so freezing cold that their breath turned into white clouds.

When they finally lit a single lamp using a simple match, the family looked at the baby with pale, scared faces. He lay perfectly still. His eyes were crimson red, surrounded by darkened, purple-veined skin, as dark and ominous as the black star in the sky. Around his crib, the shadows on the wall seemed to move by themselves, reaching out like scary fingers toward anyone who came close.

"It is a curse," his father whispered. He refused to touch the child. He looked out the window at the dark star in the southern sky. "The prophecy said a dark fire would destroy the world. He is not our son. He will bring ruin to all humans."

They named him Riven, which meant "broken." His family did not want him. Soon, a cold fear spread through the house. Within a few days, the servants refused to go into the baby's room. They said his dark presence made them feel sick and weak just by standing near him. His mother was so scared that she could not even look into his crimson red eyes surrounded by darkened, purple-veined skin.

Before the boy could even walk, the family made a choice. They could not kill a baby of their own blood, but they could not let his dark power ruin their land. On a dark night when clouds hid the black star, they carried Riven deep into the Whispering Woods. This was a giant, forgotten forest where the trees were so thick that the sun never hit the ground. They left him alone in a small stone hole, leaving him to die in the wild.

But the dark star would not let the baby die. The shadows of the forest wrapped around him like a warm blanket. They kept wild animals away and fed his core with dark energy from the earth. Riven grew up all alone. His only friends were the quiet trees and the wild black flames that shot from his fingers whenever he got emotional. He learned to survive on raw instinct. He knew very well that the world outside hated him, even though he did not understand why.

Far away from the happy north and the dark forest of the south, an old stone tower stood on a high cliff by the grey sea. Inside, an old man named the Keeper watched the sky. He was surrounded by thousands of old books and tools that tracked the stars. His body was weak, and his skin had many wrinkles because he was 250 years old. But his eyes were still very sharp, reflecting the gold and black colors of the stars.

He lowered his head, feeling very sad. He had seen these stars line up twice before in his long life. He remembered the faces of the young mages who came before. They were brave, they loved the world, but their stories always ended in a terrible death.

"The fourth cycle begins," the Keeper whispered to the empty room. His voice was rough because he had not spoken in years. "The stars do not choose heroes. They just choose catalysts to start the change. They have given the world its best shield and its most dangerous sword. But they do not tell them that the weapon always breaks the person holding it."

He walked over to a large bowl filled with glowing silver liquid. He waved his hand over it, and pictures started to show up. He saw Caelum laughing in a golden garden, surrounded by people who thought he would bring an easy victory. Then he saw Riven sitting alone inside a hollow tree, watching a small black flame dance on his fingers, his face hardened because everyone had rejected him his whole life.

Deep under the ground, in the dark places where sunlight never goes, the Keeper felt a giant, scary heartbeat. The Abyss Lord-a monster born from the bad actions and evil magic of the old world-stirred in its deep sleep. It did not have a human mind, but it had one clear goal: to wipe out all humans because humans kept destroying nature with magic and war.

The monster felt that its two catalysts were awake. It knew that the moment these two boys met, the seals holding it down would start to break. It waited, sucking in the stray magic of the world, preparing for the day it would rise to destroy humanity.

The Keeper closed his eyes. He lit a single white candle that cast both a bright light and a deep shadow across his desk. "I hope the protectors find them before the world breaks them," he prayed quietly. "Because if the light and the shadow cannot work together, there will be no world left to save."
