Quiet, But Not Unspoken

High School AU-Pt 1

A/N: So this is going to be a high school AU where the gang has known each other for a very long time. Depending on how long this is it may be more than one part. Idk. Enjoy!

Cress' POV

It was finally time for school to start and I couldn't be more excited! I know most people hate school and I'm sure that after a month I will be counting the days until summer again, but I get to spend practically everyday with my best friends! We already hang out a lot but being at school together is just different. You're forced to spend time together and even if you think you don't feel like being around them, your mind changes pretty quickly. 

My group is very different. I'm the youngest, smallest, and most shy out of all of us, but when it's just my friends around, I tend to get more comfortable and open with them. 

Cinder is the glue that keeps us together. She's friendly (to us), funny, and so very sarcastic. What isn't there to love about her?

Kai is Cinder's boyfriend, and one of my closest friends. He's diplomatic, caring, and his sarcasm fits oh so well with Cinders. They've been dating for about a year now, but everybody knows that they've liked each other since they met when we were all around eight years old. 

Scarlet and Wolf (his real name if Ze'ev but Wolf is his nickname), have been together since middle school. They are the oldest and it's their last year at highschool. 

Winter and Jacin are also together. He finally asked her out just after school ended for the summer and she obviously said yes. It was barely visible but you could tell when she hugged him and said she'd go out with him, he had a small smile on his face. Not often he shows emotion, but with Winter it's obvious he is happy.

Iko is Cinder's best friend. They have known each other the longest. She's full of energy, boy crazy, and one of the sassiest people I know.

And last, but certainly not least. Carswell Thorne. One of the most handsome, sarcastic (most of us are sarcastic if that wasn't already obvious), flirty, girl obsessed guy you'll ever meet. What I would do to be one of the girls he's crazy about. 

I guess I'll clarify what grade each of are in now. 

Cress (me:)- grade 10

Cinder-grade 11

Kai-grade 11

Scarlet and Wolf- grade 12

Winter and Jacin-grade 11

Thorne-Grade 11

So yeah, I'm just small little Cress who happened to help Cinder and Kai with some computer class in elementary school and then they sort of just brought me into their group. I didn't really have any friends in my own grade so I was happy that I had older friends, especially when the occasion bully would come around. It wasn't often, most people knew to not mess with me, but whenever someone would get brave and try, I had all my friends there to protect me and usually just scare them Sometimes Wolf would get a little more hands on but he only got detention twice and suspended once. It wasn't his fault he was trying to stop the bullies. I guess teachers never saw that he was trying to fix something. They just listened to the mean kids complain about getting pushed (and one time punched) by someone two years older than them and are focused on getting the older kid in trouble. 

Anyways enough about that!

I'm off to school and to see my friends!

When I got my schedule I was pretty confused to say the least. I signed up for grade 10 classes as that's the year I'm in, but all of my time tables say grade 11. When I went to the office to check on that, they just told me that they called my dad about bumping me up a grade as my marks from the previous years were high enough that I should be taking grade 11 classes, and he told them they should. He didn't tell me that. 

I met up with my friends after we got our schedules and were excited to see that I get to be in the same classes as some of them! I had English with Winter and Kai, Math with Thorne, Science with Iko, Cinder and Jacin, and History with Thorne and Kai.

I am really looking forward to this. I've never had friends in my classes, I just sat at the back of the class quietly and did my work. Now I'll have friends to work with!

My first class is History so when the bell rung to get going to class, Kai, Thorne and I headed off to class, talking about what had happened since the last time we saw each other.

Once we got there, we found three seats close to each other on one side of the classroom that we all hurried to so we could all be with each other.

I sat by the window while Kai sat next to me and Thorne sat in front of us. About half way through the class I knew that being in two classes with Thorne could become a problem. I've gotten used to the occasional girl he'll see at the mall or at a park where he will flirt with her and be all charismatic. But that doesn't happen very as often as you'd think. When he is talking with all of us he doesn't really pay attention, but when its just the two of us or if there are only a couple of us around, he is easily distracted by other girls. 

I know I shouldn't be jealous. We aren't dating. But I just do. And when I get jealous I get nervous and flustered. 

At least in this class I still have Kai. I can talk to Kai. It's Math that is going to be the problem. One on one with Thorne. If- no, when he gets flirty with a girl, I'll end up alone again in that class. As long as I don't get too weird about it then everything will be fine.

He's so distracting.

He is slumped down in his chair, his head back on my desk, staring at either me or the ceiling or both. I can't tell. But it's taking everything in me to just keep trying to listen to the teacher and not blush. 

He was literally just staring at another girl across the room and now he is staring, hopefully, right past my head.

"I hope you all enjoyed your summer, and if you need help finding any of your classes just come talk to me and I'll point you in the right direction." I heard the teacher say the bell rung to be dismissed. I must have zoned out. 

"Hellooo? Cress? Earth to Cress, time for English." Kai waved his hand in front of my face and I shook my head once I realised what happened.

"Oh, sorry. I guess I got lost thinking about... a video game." I giggled kind of awkwardly as I tucked my hair behind my ear.

"Okay well we gotta go now or we'll be late." Kai said as he grabbed a couple of my books from my desk and started walking from the classroom.

I was following behind him when I heard Thorne yell, "See ya at lunch Cress!" I turned around and waved at him while he very dramatically waved his hand and had a goofy grin plastered on his face. That grin that makes me blush every time I see it.

I was able to focus just fine in English. No surprise there. I also love English so it went by quickly.

Next was lunch. We all found each other in the cafeteria and grabbed a table to sit at. We got to catch up on our summers and actually have time to talk to each other, where as this morning we had time to say hello, compare schedules, and the leave. 

There are two semesters in a school year here. I have Math and Science next semester so after lunch I have a computer class (my favourite!), and then gym. I hate gym. 

A/N: So I all of the sudden got a ton of ideas for this. I know there are so many high school AUs and I don't know if this will be even remotely good to read to but I'm having a surprising amount of fun writing it so I'm going to just keep going. I hope it doesn't make you cringe too much but at least I'm posting something so I'm happy with that. (:
