•Chapter Four•

Gilberts POV

"Bash I am going to propose", said Gilbert nerviously.

"I knew it, I knew it was Anne all along!", said Bash standing up form his seat to do a little dance.

Gilbert just laughed "I know, and today I am going to propose, I have it all planed out, I am going to make a picnic in the cliff, and I am going to cook everything myself"

"I am proud of you, and I know everything is going to go very well", said Bash putting his hand in Gilberts shoulder, " but are you seriously going to cook?", said Bash laughing again.

"Yes I am going to cook, now I need you to go get some ingridients from the store...", said Gilbert laughing along with Bash.

Bash had just left for the ingridients, and Gilbert was putting Delfine to sleep before he started cooking.

"Deli can I tell you something?", said Gilbert in a cute baby voice.

"I love Anne, so much, and I know she loves me too...but i cant help feeling nervous, I know she is the one, there is no one like her that could ever make me feel the way she does, her beutiful ocean eyes, her lovley red hair, her amazing freckles, and her fiery temper, I love everything about her..."

Gilbert was with Bash in the kitchen, they were packing everything for the picnic, and after they did, Bash helped Gilbert choose his clothes.

He came in and out of his room with a shirt that looked excactly like the one before, but he couldn't help it, he wanted tonight to be perfect.

Gilbert had an amazing time with Anne at the picnic, and was quite impressed about how the food tuned out to be quite tasty, you both laughed and talked enjoying each other's company.

Gilbert was watching the sunset with Anne, and as he looked over at her, she looked beautiful just like always, and Gilbert knew that this was the perfect moment to propose.

He felt his heart racing, and he could barely breathe.

Gilbert took a deep breath and said, "Anne I love you, so much and I hope you know that...", he said with a sparkle in his eyes.

"Of course I know, and I love you too Gilbert!", hearing those words come out of her mouth made him smile brighter than ever and made him feel confident of what he was about to say.

Gilbert smiled, "Well then that works out perfect!"

He graved Anne's hand, got down in one knee and took out a ring in his other hand, "Anne Sherly-Cuthbert, will you make me the happiest man on eath and marry me?"

"Marry me?! Right now?"

This was not what Gilbert was expecting her reaction broke his heart, he didnt know what to do or say, "Well not right now, but mabye in a year or so..."

"B-but Gilbert are you even thinking? We are so young, we still have to explore the world, we cant cut that off, at least not right now..."

"So what are you saying?", asked Gilbert with a shaking voice, a wave of sadness filed his heart as he knew what she meant, but he couldn't bare to say it himself, he needed to hear it form Anne.

"I can't get married Gilbert, I have so much to acomplish-"

"Then well do it toghether!... Anne I love you, and there isn't another person in this world that I'd rather spent the rest of my life with...", said Gilbert hopeful that that will change her mind.

"Gilbert I-I love you too, but i just cant, a-and neither can you! What will happen with your carrier?, What will happen with my carrier?", said Anne through tears.

"We can do it toghether... Anne please", said Gilbert throught tears on his own.

"I am so sorry Gilbert, I really am, but I-I can't do it...", and with that Anne left, leaving a heart broken Gilbert.

He sat there all alone thinking how could he have been so stupid?, he wasnt thinking at all!, and Anne was right, they did had a lot of things ahead of them, but he hoped they could go thorugh them together, but he just jumped right in wothout giving it a second thought, and now because of that he had lost Anne.

A month after that Gilbert left to Toronto to continue on his studies, leaving the love of his life back in Avonlea, along with his heart.
