“I will get a car and an apartment; so he has given me four months to round up here and come over.” Eric said excited about the new change in his life; as he rode the car.
She just kept staring at the empty road they passed. She didn’t talk for seconds.
“D.” He called but she didn’t answer.
He turned to the road and quickly glanced at her as they passed a car. “I’m sorry, I didn’t tell you. I wanted to tell you later tonight when we would go for dinner.” He explained himself.
“When did you make this decision?” Her voice quiet and cold.
“A few days ago.”
Diana looked at him. And he couldn’t call her to tell her? They speak every day, especially at the end of the day; he had the chance to tell her last night, when she reminded him; she would be going shopping for Emily’s wedding dress with her mom and the girls; he should have told her than allowed her to look stupid in front of her friends.
“We speak every day, Eric.”
He looked at her. “Baby, I just thought; you would love the news; maybe we could actually go to Canada together.”
She looked at him. “Eric.”
“We had plans to go together; can’t it just be like that?” He said as he smiled.
She only shook her head and lean back on the front seat. She was happy for him; finally, he didn’t have to work in a uniform, he didn’t have to refer to someone as ‘yes, sir’. His uncle have been him the opportunity to run a company and if he does well at the end four years. The company will be his in name and all. Eric finished his studies, with the whole decrease in employment; he was unable to find a job with his qualification. Architecture. But this was close; he became the MD, he could also design places on the side.
She was happy for him but only sad; it seems as if, he didn’t think of her or considered her that important for his smallest talk.
She looked at the car side, when the car came slowly to halt.
When it finally stopped, she reached for the car handle. They had agreed; he use her car tomorrow; he wanted to go drive his cousin to the car pack since they would be resuming school by Monday; which was only two days from now.
“Diana.”
Her hand stopped at the handle; she didn’t look at him yet.
He gentle touched her arm and his finger sneezed her skin; she reluctantly dropped her hand from the handle.
“I’m sorry.” He said.
She turned her head to look at him. It took quite a while for Eric to apologize; he didn’t really love saying sorry but when he does realize he had hurt that person, especially Diana. He didn’t hesitate.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t tell you; I forgot....if Fred hadn’t brought it up......”
“Maybe you might not even tell me?” Diana asked.
At least he was telling the truth now. If he hadn’t told everyone there tonight; perhaps they could had quarrel before he left for greener pastures.
He touched her hand. “I’m sorry. Please don’t be upset.” He touched her cheek; when she didn’t say anything; he raised her hand and kissed it.
She smiled. He did have a way of making her smile again.
“Fine, Eric.” She chuckled.
He smiled and gently leaned in to kiss her.
He held the back of her neck and tried to take her lips in the manner he wanted. “This place is too small.” He complained.
Diana laughed and gentle looked at him; when he stopped kissing her.
“Some other time.”
He smiled.
She kissed his cheek before he took his seat again and she excused herself and closed the car door behind her.
He didn’t leave until; she had passed through her gate and locked it.****
“I doubt if you guys fight; it would even last. Have you guys ever fought, quarreled?” Elisabeth asked Diana on the video chat.
They were chatting; it became a ritual every night.
Diana thought about it for a minute before she blow dry her hair again. “No.”
“Is that healthy?” Cassandra asked as she sat wearing her PJs.
“You bet! It helps you guys hear each other out, it gives room for apologies he can never say on a normal day and it allows great make out.” Emily said from her end; she wasn’t on screen beside she just came from the bath room.
“Greg and I fight every time he gets back. I think I love the make out more than him.” Elisabeth said as she picked her phone.
They laughed. ”That is expected. You act like a sex starved female every time, he got back.” Diana mentioned.
They all laughed.
“You can’t blame me wanting my man and showing it every time, he gets back.” Elisabeth said smiling.
“Is it that so?” Diana said cunningly.
“Diana; he apologized?”
“Yes. Although I knew I was totally overreacting.”
“I disagree. You had every right to be upset with him. Every right.” Emily told her as she pulled up her shorts.
“Did the make out happen?” Cassie continued with an inquiry.
Diana made a cute face.
“Awwwn.” Elisabeth and Cassie said at the same time; Emily had to look at the screen to know what she was doing; she just smiled.
“We kissed.”
“Wait that was it?” Cassie asked somewhat disappointed.
Emily scoffed at her friend’s funny question as she sat on her bed after dressing up. “Cassie, sometimes, it is best experiencing these things by yourself; so you won’t be too disappointed.” She said smiling.
“That is not.........” Cassie wanted to explain but Diana cut her off.
“We would have gone further; but my car is too small.” They all laughed.
“Cars can give you a back sore.” Emily told them.
“Cassie?” Elisabeth called her.
“Yes.” She looked at her screen.
“What do you think about making out in a car?”
She almost laughed. She was just playing.
“I don’t know, Lisa.”
“Let’s get you a boyfriend.” Elisabeth suggested.
The only way she could do that was; introduce her to someone and that was blind date.
“Lisa, I don’t do blind dates.”
They smiled.
“Girls, we have an early morning tomorrow, let’s go to bed.” Emily reminded them.
“They nodded and they began logging out.
“Cass, take your time; don’t rush into anything.” Emily told her.
Cassie nod before they both logged out.****
“Audrey Garrison’s design from Texas.” The boutique owner proudly presented a wedding gown with no strap, no hand; the back opened.
The girls looked at the wedding dress and back at Emily who didn’t look sure; because it was so not her style.
Emily just moved away from the gown.
Her mother shook her head when the lady looked at her.
The lady moved on to the next. “This.” She presented another.
The design of the dress was wild and it was incredible long; how was Cassie going to stay about five meters from the bride because she was playing bridesmaid. It was a long sleeve gown; in this weather. Emily gave her mother a sorry look. Her mother returned the look to the lady.
“How about this dress?” The lady introduced a short gown; sleeveless and tub like.
Really? So not Emily’s style; the girls knew that and her mom knew that. Her mother didn’t even wait for Emily to look at her; she just shook her head.
They only came to this boutique because where they were originally going wasn’t opened yet......for reasons only the manager knew.
“Or Em, should we get a designer to sew your exact kind of wedding gown?” Diana asked joking.
The lady’s ear was opened. “We do have Designers; who can sew whatever you want.” She offered.
“Wedding gowns are only worn once in a life time. What will I do with a wedding gown in my closet?”
“We do have designers at standby; if you don’t want to keep the dress; you could sell it to us.” She continued talking.
Cassie and Elisabeth suppressed their laughter; Emily’s mom only smiled. The boutique lady could do all.
They were just buying time to leave here.
“Diana is it time for desserts?” Elisabeth asked her.
Elisabeth’s phone rang; she excused herself for a minute.
Diana checked her watch. “Almost time.”
“Miss....soon to be Mrs.” The lady was referring to Emily.
Her mom just looked at her. Elisabeth whispered something in Cassie’s ear and Cassie moved round to whisper it in Mrs. Perez’s ear.
“Which do you prefer?”
Mrs. Perez looked at her. “Madam, I want the best for my daughter.”
“Of course.” The lady said as she brings out her phone and was about to call a number.
“We can’t wait here until it comes; we will come some other time; we have a lot to do.”
“Okay ma’am. Can I have your number?” The girls were already leaving.
“Let’s see......”
They waited for her mom to come out of the boutique; when she did; Emily asked her.
“Mummy, did you give her your number?”
She nodded her head.
“Why?” she asked as she entered the car. Diana drove off.
“Connections.”
“Really?” Emily didn’t believe her ears.
“Because you don’t want it, didn’t mean someone else won’t.”
Of course; your dislike, is someone’s like.
Diana drove to the wedding gown showroom.
“Should we hear you out or condemn you?” Elisabeth told the manager.
“Sorry, girls. I needed to attend to my children.”
Mrs. Perez nod understandingly.
The girls dropped their bags. “Now you can try it on and see which is best.” Diana told her.
There were too kinds of stores; one were they allow you try something on; see if it fits and let you buy; if it does or return it if it doesn’t and the store where they only allow you size with your eyes and test to confirm your size and at the end buy it.
Emily tried different wedding gowns and stopped when she found the one; she knew, they knew and her mom knew; this was it.
Fred will not take his eyes off her for a second; it had a simple design; long and straight to her knee but from her knee downward was flare; the back had a long zip to her waist and the hand; sleeve was transparent; air could touch her skin; she was looking incredible beautiful.
“This is the one.” Cassie said.
Elisabeth checked her out. “This one allows easy access; just one zip down; Fred will go crazy.” She teased.
Her mother just smiled.
“We will take it.” Her mother told the manager and they walked together to her office to cash and balance with receipt; here she could return the dress but if she had collected the designer’s number; sewn her own wedding gown. The money; they’d collect will be more than the money they used to buy and return this dress.
“Mrs. Fred.” Cassie called her friend.
“Yes.”
“See she is already claiming it; when the wedding has not even started.” Diana teased laughing.
“My wedding is in three months.” She said excited.
“You still have time. You don’t want to be in such a mad family. Run of your life.” Elisabeth teased.
They all laughed.
Fred has a large family; he didn’t leave with them; has an apartment of his own; three bedrooms flat, a garden and a balcony; what was remaining, A car?
He came from the family of six: his father, his mother, three brothers and one girl. He was the last boy. His elder brother married with two child; Phillip, his older brother two years was extremely annoying, a loafer......yet to goes something about his life; still lived with his parents and sister.
She would be part of his family in three months and two days time to be exact.
After the wedding dress, they agreed to meet on Wednesday; Diana head to set; because her mom called her; Elizabeth went with her to help, Emily went back to work; she worked as an accountant and Cassie decided to pay her brother a visit in his place of work.
