Will felt the rain gather on his jacket as the Shadowhunters walked down the streets of Brooklyn.
I brushed my hands together, making them warm up almost instantly. The streets of Brooklyn were a different place at this time of night, I thought to myself. The creatures of the night, Downworlders and Mundanes, come out to play once the city comes alive. I walked next to the dark-haired Lightwood. I had found out his name was Alec and he was not very nice at all. Typical of Lightwoods. Tessa walked alongside Clary Fairchild, who had been silent most of the time. She was small and nimble. She didn't seem like much of a Shadowhunter at all. As soon as I saw the sign, Tessa came over to me and grabbed my arm. Jace glared at us like we were being gross. I smirked. That's my boy, I thought, way to be like your great-something grandpa. I smiled at her reassuringly and continued walking up to the Pandemonium Club, which looked like a modern Mundane club. As we got closer though I could see the vampires and faeries arriving. I knew that even though I absolutely hated vampires, I had to keep my cool."Please don't bite another vampire while we're here, dear." Tessa whispered to me.
"I wouldn't get your hopes up." I muttered in response. Tessa rolled her eyes and then we reached the club entrance. The weird guy Hodge went up to the doors and knocked loudly. There was a moment of silence and then a very familiar face opened the door.
"Hodge? What are you doin- WILL?!" Magnus said in the middle of his sentence. He looked at me like I was a ghost. Then he beamed and hugged me hard. "It's good to see you, my friend. Everyone thought you were dead."
"It takes a lot to kill Will Herondale." Tessa said, standing next to me. Magnus let go of me and hugged Tessa.
"Oh and my dear Tessa! I am very glad to see you too!" He said. Then he let go of Tessa and looked at Hodge in a serious way.
"Why have you come here?" He said, his cat-like eyes narrowing.
"To discuss a few things about whether you're coming with us or not." Hodge answered sternly. It took Magnus a moment to process what was said and then he answered.
"Come in." He said briskly. Tessa gave me a smile and we walked inside. The club was extremely loud. As I walked in the club the beat of the bass vibrated my entire body. Tessa jerked back too as she heard the bass. Jace rolled his eyes and walked past us.
"Looks like Jace has something shoved up his ass." Clary muttered, following him. She put a hand on his shoulder and whispered something in his ear that he seemed to not like. But the minute she walked away from him, Jace's eyes softened and he sighed. Tessa also watched them in wonder. They were much like Tessa and I many years ago. I moved towards her to ask her a question and then Hodge told us to stay down here and wait for them.
"Whatever you say sir." I said sarcastically, not even thinking about what I just said. Hodge just walked away with Magnus and left me and Tessa. The other Shadowhunters had walked away with Clary and Jace, so we were stuck surrounded by vampires, werewolves, and a couple of faeries. I had to keep myself from launching at the vampires around me. Hodge told us to act natural, so we tried to dance around like the others did. Tessa thankfully guided me around and helped me try to dance. So far it wasn't helping. We were attracting attention like maggots to a dead cat. People recognized Tessa and I quite easily, considering we were the only Shadowhunters to eve become immortal. As I realized this we were then surrounded by the vampires, their smiles almost devilish to us. I covered Tessa but she busted through me with angelic force.
"Tessa and Will Herondale, what a surprise." One of the vampires said. I snarled at them, making them get serious again. Tessa grabbed my shoulders as I tried to launch myself at one of them. The club got silent as they realized who we were. I didn't care because this time I knew the vampires were going after Tessa. But before I could protect her they grabbed her, everyone looking at us in fright. Tessa yelled and tugged at them, but they were much stronger than her. I reached for her but they pinned me down.
"Tessa!!!" I screamed. She yelled something back before they slammed her against a wall, knocking her out. I clenched my jaw. I used all of my strength to break free of the vampire's grip. I stabbed the vampire with my knife and swiftly killed the two pinning me down. I ran towards her but it was too late. They were gone and they took Tessa from me. I closed my eyes just as the others came over to me, including Magnus.
"What happened?" Magnus said, putting his hand on my shoulder.
"Tessa, they took Tessa." I whispered. "I have to go." I ran over to where I saw Tessa last and realized they weren't entirely gone. I saw them carry her into a car. I ran towards them and grabbed a motorcycle nearby. I started the ignition and I rode towards the car. As I reached the side of it I threw another knife at them, hitting the one driving. I jumped onto the limo and threw another knife at the other Downworlder as the car swerved and hit a bridge. I quickly grabbed Tessa and pulled her out of the window before the car hit the water. We hit the water hard, or at least that's how it felt for Tessa. I struggled to carry her up at first, but I found a way to bring her up to the surface. I gasped for air and swam her close to the shore. I dragged myself over to the shore and carried Tessa over to a park.
I put Tessa down in the park by a cemetery and I realized I was injured. Tessa's more important, I thought to myself. I leaned over and pulled her sticky bloody hair out of her face. She was pale and her face lost its glow. I turned her over and checked the back of her head. It was covered in blood and there was a huge gash on her head. I tried to remain calm as I turned her head over and blotted the wound carefully. A lot of blood began to seep into my shirt. I moved swiftly and held her head in my hands, trying to keep the blood in her body. I heard Magnus coming, yelling at me. I didn't turn around. I didn't need their help, well maybe Magnus's help but not the others. The vampires had tried to kill Tessa, but why? The vampires had no business with us. Unless...
"Do the vampires work with Valentine?" I yelled at Magnus.
"Not that I have heard of." Magnus said. Then he closed his eyes like he was in pain. "Unless... They must be. Valentine must have joined forces with the vampires in Brooklyn."
"We must get her back to the Institute. I can't stand to see her like this. Can you heal her?" I asked Magnus. He shook his head.
"I used all my power healing Alec and Jace. They fought off vampires at my club. I can't believe I let them in... I've failed you. I'm very sorry." Magnus said.
"Yes, you have." I said, gritting my teeth. "I'll carry her back. I deal with everyone else when we get back." I grumbled and began walking back to the Institute, carrying my lifeless Tessa in my arms.
