***Alice's POV***
Everything around me is black. I can hear voices but my eyes refuse to open. The voices seem so distant, like a dream. I breath in and out, in and out. It's going to be okay, I can get out of this. I try to open my eyes but they don't budge.
"She's alive right?" Says a voice through the darkness. It's so loud I have to cover my ears to drown out the noise, but I can't move my body. I feel someone pick up my arm. A small amount of pressure is placed on it.
"Yeah she still has a heartbeat." Says a second voice.
"Pan's gonna be pissed at whoever did this." A third voice chuckles.
Ok that's it I'm done being helpless. I try pulling my eyelids apart. Come one! Bright light blinds my vision. I come up and start gulping air. I guess I've been holding my breath without realizing it.
Three boys circle me, they each wear shocked expressions.
"Uh I'll go get Pan." One says backing away.
A moment later the boy comes back with Pan. A look of worry crosses his face when he sees me.
"Thank you boys, that will be all." Peter says dismissing them. "What happened Alice?" He asks.
"It was nothing." I say avoiding his eyes. He searches my face to find an answer.
"Alice you can tell me what happened."
I could tell him, but something tells me I shouldn't. What could go wrong if I told him? Still the little voice in the back of my head said no.
"Trust me it was nothing." I say looking into his emerald eyes. He looks at me trying to distinguish my emotions. I break the stare and look at the ground. His hand comes to my chin and lifts my head so I am forced to look at him.
"Alice..."
"Trust me it was nothing." Peter gets up and walks away. Phew. That's over.
I sit back and look up at the blue sky. It's so blue it doesn't look real it looks, magical. White puffy clouds float by. They look like white cotton candy. I remember when I thought that clouds were made of cotton candy. That dream was shattered when I started fourth grade. I cried for an hour after school that day.
"Hello my love." Says a voice. I prop myself on one elbow and to find the source of the voice. Jason walks toward me. He looks like he's desperately trying to look cool. I have to bite back a laugh.
"Okay?" I say trying really hard not to laugh. He comes closer and caresses my cheek.
"Don't deny it babe." He starts to lean in for a kiss. That's it I can't hold my laughter back any longer. I start laughing really hard. Jason opens his eyes and stares at me.
"Okay goodbye." I chuckle. He looks hurt but then the hurt flashes into anger. I can see him seething with rage. I swing me legs over the platform and push off the second my feet touch the ground it feels as though knives have been shot up through the ground. I begin to scream and every boy in the camp stops and stares at me.
Peter rushes over and lays me back down on the platform.
"What the freaking hell just happened?" I scream. Peter looks like he might start laughing and that makes me even angrier. I pull him down by his collar so his face is an inch away from mine. "What happened?" I say, every word laced with venom. Peter steps back and stares at me.
"I didn't do anything to you. If I had to guess your pain is off kilter because of my punishment. Your legs are probably just asleep." He chuckles. Then he leans in and his voice drops to a growl. "Now tell me, who did this to you?"
I glare into his glinting eyes. Why does he want to know so bad?
"Someone." I snap.
"Who or I will put you through another day tied to that tree." He smirks.
Crap. I'm not sure I could do that.
"That tree? Ha! That was nothing!" I smile.
He takes in a deep breath and looks away. When he looks back at me there is murder in his eyes.
"Who did this? Tell me now and your punishment for keeping something from me will be small." He says sounding super pissed.
I stare at him making sure he's serious. His face is stone as he stares daggers into me. Ugh. I hate him.
"Jason." I spit. Peter gets a wicked smile on his face. He starts to walk toward me, taking small dramatic steps. After a couple of steps he stops and turns around and walks away. I see him walk up to Felix. They chat silently for about five minutes. Then Felix nods and turns away, leaving Pan. When Felix is out of site Peter turns to me, grining evily.
"Thank you, love. Now let's get your training in for the day." He gestures for me to follow him. I follow his lead and we walk down to the beach."Today we are going to work on dodging magic." He says, his eyes flash with excitement. Great just what I need, fireballs rushing at my head. "Just don't get burned," He smirks forming a fireball in his hand.
The fireball rushes right at me. I duck just in time, I can hear the hair on the top of my head sizzling. Next a purple liquid rushes out of the jungle, dreamshade. Crap. I dodge it the best I can. I stop and take in deep breaths. The ground around me begins to shake throwing me off balance. I tumble down to the sandy earth. Twisted vines protrude from the sand and begin to entangle me. I try to get out of their death grip but they only closes tighter around me.
"Fine Pan!" I snarl. "Let me out you win."
"Oh no you need to find a way out." He grins. I relax my body and stop moving. Slowly the vines loosen, and finally come off. "I'm impressed Alice."
"Great. Are we done?"
"Nah." Another fireball races toward me. I dodge it and then the next one and the next one.
A blood curdling scream stops me in my tracks. The sound echos in my ears.
"What was that?" I snap.
"Nothing of your concern." Peter says.
"What the hell was that? " I say again starting to yell, my fists start to clench.
"Nothing. Of. Your. Concern." Peter says through clenched teeth.
"What was that?" I scream unclenching my fists. Everything around me goes silent.
I open my eyes, that I didn't know were closed and look at Peter.
He stares at me wide-eyed. But he's not looking at me, he's looking at the ground next to me.
"What?" I ask annoyed. He continues to stare. I look down and take in a sharp breath.
The sand in on fire, but not any kind of fire,
It's
Black
