Chapter 6: Midterms Worries
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
It's been a few weeks since Perrie and Jade started dating. They weren't official yet but they were getting there. They've made out a few times but never went further than that. It's not like they were planning on when to have sex, it just never came around.
Next week, Perrie had midterms. Which of course, she had forgotten about since Jade was now the center of her attention and the only thing she cared about.
"I told you, she's a distraction." Jesy scolded Perrie who was ripping out most of her hair. She'd go bald by the end of the week.
"She's not a distraction-" a ding interrupts Perrie. Checking her phone a wide grin is plastered on her face as soon as she reads the contact name.
"Perrie!"
"Okay, she's a distraction. But I've never felt like this with anyone before. I can't help it."
Jesy sighs and takes Perrie's phone away from her. "Just study for a few hours and you can go back to texting her all night."
"A few hours with no breaks? You're killing me, Jes." Perrie gestures being stabbed in the heart and plays dead on the kitchen table.
"You can have breaks but please Perrie, you're gonna flunk."
Perrie knows well that her best friend just wants what's best for her, so she stops sulking and tries to focus on some studying. She wasn't the brightest when it came to school stuff and she knew that Jade was probably top in her entire school.
To try and impress her not-yet-girlfriend-girlfriend, Perrie started spending less time on her phone and more time studying. She even started going to open tutoring lessons.
Her lack of presence started to worry Jade, "Hey, what are you doing?"
"I was just studying, I'm taking a little break before I get back into my readings." Perrie put her on speaker while she grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge.
"Oh,"
"What's up?" Perrie pressed the phone against her ear noticing the sudden change of tone in Jade's voice.
"It's nothing.. You didn't text me back last night."
Perrie facepalms and curses in her head, "Shoot, I'm sorry. I was just so busy all day yesterday, I passed out right when I got home."
"It's alright, you have midterms don't you?"
"Just another week more."
"..."
"Are you sure everything's alright?"
"Everything's alright,"
"How about a date right after exams? My treat."
Jade giggles, "It's always your treat,"
Perrie couldn't help but smile at the sweet sound that came from the other line, "C'mon, I feel bad for not spending enough time with you recently."
"Don't worry about it. Now get back to studying, I'll call you later." Perrie could almost hear the smile through Jade's voice.
It's been two weeks and Perrie has only stopped by the library once or twice to give Jade a bag of donuts before leaving her once again to study and to finish her exams.
She could have easily stayed longer but she knew if she stayed she wouldn't have wanted to leave. But there was also something about Jade, that she couldn't pick out. She was more distant and a lot more serious. Maybe it was Perrie's imagination so she brushed it off and finished her exams with a breeze.
She was excited to finally spend more time with the girl of her dreams but when she finally stayed a little longer in the library, Jade wasn't her usual self. She was a lot more reserved.
They sat across from each other eating the donuts quietly. It was the first time their comfortable silence was no longer comfortable and Perrie didn't know what to do.
"Have another, I know you like the custard ones." Perrie breaks the ice and offers another donut.
"I'm not really that hungry." Jade starts stamping a pile of books. The silence was now filled with the thumping sound of stamp meeting paper.
"Are you mad at me?"
"Why would I be mad?" She slams the books on the other side of the table and starts a new pile to stamp.
"You look pretty mad to me.."
"I'm not mad." she continues until finally Perrie places her hand on top of the book to get her attention and gets a stamped.
"Jade," she said, ignoring the ink stain on the back of her hand.
The brunette sighs and places the stamp aside, "I'm not mad Perrie.."
"Then what's wrong?" Perrie watched as Jade looked for the right words to say, "You're not like... losing interest in me, are you? I know I'm not the smartest, or the richest, or the best looking out there but-"
"That's not it, I'm not losing interest in you. I really like you and I'm sorry for being so, I don't know.. weird?"
"I really like you too and you know you can always talk to me if something is bothering you."
Jade swallows hard, "You really were just studying these past few weeks, weren't you?'
Perrie gets a hint of what Jade's worry was and takes her hand, "I really was. And to be honest with you, I was just trying to impress you with my grades." Perrie runs her fingers through her hair with an embarrassed chuckle, "I'd never lie to you and if you want to blame someone for the lack of attention I've been giving you, blame Jesy. She always takes my phone when I'm studying."
"I'm sorry," Jade's big brown eyes was suddenly filled with regret and worry, "I'm so stupid."
"Hey c'mere," Perrie pulls Jade onto her lap and bites her neck lightly, "I missed you."
"I missed you too." Jade smiles shyly. She loves when Perrie kissed and bit her neck like she was some sort of candy. "Where are you taking me for our next date?"
"It's a secret."
"You'd keep a secret from your girlfriend?" Jade teased but immediately tensed when she realised what word she had let slip out of her mouth.
"Are you saying that you're my girlfriend?" Perrie watched as Jade's cheeks turned crimson.
"If you wanted me to be.." Jade could feel eyes drilling into her.
"You would what?"
"Don't make me say it," Jade mumbles under her breath as she plays with the collar of Perrie's shirt.
"What was that? I couldn't hear you." Perrie was definitely into embarrassing Jade.
Jade lets out a sigh and whines, "Perrie.."
Perrie laughs and gives in, "Would you like to be my girlfriend, Jade?"
Jade doesn't reply, instead she kisses Perrie before hugging her tight. Perrie already knew her answer.
