I opened my eyes slowly as a bright light engulfed me....I could see two figures talking....almost in a fight....one was definitely Mike but the other was a girl that I didn't know....my hearing slowly returned and I could finally hear them talking.

"Oh please, you don't care about this little runt..." I tuned her out because I felt my heart break. She was wrong right...? Mike cared for me right....? I must have been wrong because Mike left the room with the girl....

I felt a few whimpers leave me....why was I alive? What was I thinking about people caring for me...? I rubbed my eyes when Mike walked back in. As soon as he saw me awake he ran over to me and hugged me. "Jeremy I-I thought I lost you....please never do that again...." He whispered holding me tightly.

I gently hugged him back. "I-I promise I won't...." I promised. "Good, now you're going to live with me alright...?" He asked letting me go. I nodded smiling a bit. "But w-what about my d-dad...?" I questioned fear over come me. He sighed slightly "Don't worry, he's never going to hurt you ever again...I'll protect you." He promised and I nodded.

For the very first time in a while I felt safe... I knew Mike would never hurt me......
