March Rain
Bobbing heads attest each ploplet,
Stooping to spring up anew.
A weighty matter each droplet,
Even the gentle formed dew.
Transient diamond berries cling,
From every unfruiting oak.
Sombre gutters begin to sing,
As mournful birds hush and soak.
Wormy smell of oozing turf
Permeates the sodden air,
Wringing out of the warming earth
Fronds, unfurling from their lair.
