Sometimes the rain can speak many words. Many languages and invocations of wisdom. It can speak mentality and knowledge. Sometimes the amplification of the rain can match the height of our emotions. But yet sometimes when there is no rain, that speaks volumes just as well. We can classify this an example of pathetic fallacy.
A situation that we examine to the best of our ability at this moment could be the humble abode of where the presence of rain's voice is silent.
Time continues to bypass through Lou's consciousness as his thinking came to a halt. He began to feel as though his mind was starting to get ahead of himself, making assumptions on what he thought was real or not. "Probably just cold getting to me..."
He shook his hid, hoping that the thoughts what erase his mind as he did it. Lou's eyes opened up, as they started to relax through the sound of the rain outside. though he was glad he wasn't outside to experience the cold, drenching pain it could bring when fully exposed to it. He shook his whole body, almost as if it was a small shiver. His eyes darted around the room and found himself staring at the pantry of the kitchen. His mood was instantly brightened, bringing himself to the realisation that Mandy had left him a little gift in the treasure of wonders.
"And help yourself to a little surprise in the pantry."
He jumps up from the couch and makes his way over to the pantry. As soon as he opens it, his eyes widen in excitement, seeing the jar of raspberry and white chocolate chip cookies almost welcoming him. He helps himself to the crunchy goodness. If Mandy was one thing, she had the highest expertise in baking. Something that Lou could never get enough of with this girl. His face then grew furrowed, now becoming more confident with the unknown whereabouts of Mandy.
Suddenly, as if the universe had read his mind, the sound of key clashing against the doorknob on the other side of the front door flowed through Lou's eardrums. He had already heard her making her way towards the living room and decided to grab himself another cookie.
"Hey Mandy, these cookies are amazing. I took a moment to relax and I'm definitely feeling a lot better now..."
"L-Lou..."
"Yeah?" He questions, still keeping his nonchalant posture. But as soon as he turned back, his heart shattered.
There stood Mandy, completely drenched in rain. Her eyes red and puffy from the dread that followed her to her house. The agony was painted on her face like an acrylic picture. It would've been better if it was oil.
He immediately rushed up to her. "Mandy! Oh my god, you're soaking wet!". He rushed up to her, grabbing her firmly by the shoulders. His face was only a foot away from hers, eyes searching her like a way out of a trapped room, they displayed complete worry.
"What g-gave you the hint?" She shivered, taking the sarcasm to a low, but still making it imminent enough for Lou. Lou just sighed exasperatedly, giving her a look of sympathy.
"Come on," Lou then took her in his arms and guided her to her room. She found her self shivering in one place as he made his way back to the doorframe.
"Get into something more comfortable and dry up. Don't want you getting a cold." Lou advises, before giving a warm-hearted smile. Mandy attempts to do so back, but she ends up having a hard time and just nods in return.
Lou winks before her makes his way back downstairs.
------
The warmth in the room that she walked into while clothed in much comfier traditional collared pyjamas. Her eyes were then drawn towards the couch, she was absolutely longing for its touch, an angelic influence that made her love her home so much.
She shuffled against the carpet, all the way to the couch and calmly sitting on it, snuggling into the corner of it's 'L' shape. Her mind began to cloud once again, she had thought this was over. Why was this happening again? She should be at peace. But sadly she wasn't, peace is sadly everything far from what she felt. Like a gust of wind, all the sounds from reality impacted her hearing from all areas. Her head shifted towards the source of the pitter-pattering against the windows.
She lifted her head up to be greeted with the sight of Lou holding a hot chocolate, as she shifted his gaze towards the blanket on the couch as a sign to use it. She obliged, and brought the blanket from the corner of the couch, and draped it onto herself. He placed the hot chocolate into her hands gently before taking a seat himself. "Thank you," she muttered, still trying to adjust to the warmth of the living room.
"Now," she looks up from the ground.
"What happened."
"I-... I was just walking around the neighbourhood trying to get some fresh air. I sat down on the bench, and then...Then Tuesday came by coincidentally. Then it went from just a quiet argument to a full-on blow to the chest..." Mandy explained the tears were struggling to keep themselves tucked away in her eye sockets.
Lou gently rested her hand on her hand. He spoke slowly and softly. "What did she say?"
Mandy's breath was shaky as she tried to breathe in, Lou immediately saw this and put his arms securely around her back. Waiting patiently.
"She-... She said, and I quote "You will never be anything more than a sad, silent doll, Mandy,"... She walked away before the rain got me."
Thunder clapped from the outside of the house. It was as if the anger that had emitted from Lou was so painfully loud, he became one with nature. His setting was now his emotion.
Ah, pathetic fallacy; so cruel, yet so comprehensive.
