"You from the area?"
I glanced up from my glass of bourbon and looked at the bartender. Terri, I think she said her name was.
"Sorry?" My mind had been jumbled most of the day today and I didn't hear what she asked me.
She smiled as she made a drink for another customer. "I asked if you were from around here."
She handed the drink to the customer and then wiped the bar with a rag. "Two types of people come through here. Regulars and people passing through." She came and leaned against the bar in front of me. "Which is it?"
I returned her smile and drank the last of my bourbon. "If you don't recognize me, doesn't the question answer itself?"
She chuckled and crossed her arms over her chest. "Not necessarily. We have people move into the area who become regulars."
Well, that was true. Now I felt like an ass. "Sorry. I'm from the city. I'm here visiting a friend."
"Where's your friend?"
Damn. Was this woman a reporter or something?
"He's busy with some important family stuff today."
I was kind of bummed when Logan told me I wasn't going to be able to see him at all today. He had that brunch with his fiancee and Wyatt and then he said he was hanging out with them tonight.
I couldn't really get mad at him for it. I knew when I agreed to stay in town that I wasn't going to be able to see him all that much. For Christ's sake, the man was planning his wedding.
Yep. As I sat here this very moment, he was planning out the day he was going to vow to spend the rest of his life with one woman forever. A woman he was going to be having continuous sex with.
There was a pit in my stomach when I thought about that fact. It was bad enough that he and I messed around when we we're with other people, but what was going to happen when he got married? We couldn't keep doing this shit.
I tapped my empty glass, letting her know I wanted more Maker's Mark. If I thought she would, I would tell her to leave the damn bottle.
Terri poured me another one and sat it in front of me. "Something serious?"
I downed the whole glass. It burned the back of my throat and I coughed a little into my hand. "Yeah, I guess. He's getting married."
Terri leaned forward and lowered her voice. "Does he know how you feel?"
Panic tightened my chest like a fist. "I don't know what you mean."
"Hey, Terri!" a customer called from the other side of the bar. "Can I order some food?"
"Be right there!" she called back.
She poured another glass of bourbon and gave me a small smile. "This one's on me."
When she disappeared from my line of sight, I stared at the glass in front of me. What the hell did she mean? Did I say something to imply that I had feelings for Logan?
Fuck. I couldn't think about this shit right now. I threw back the drink she made me and put some cash on the bar. When I got up and turned to leave, I froze.
Logan. Logan was here. I glanced around the bar and that's when I saw Wyatt. Dammit. That meant the woman he was dancing and laughing with was his fiancee. Her back was to me, so I couldn't see her face. But I could see Logan's face as he smiled at her.
I felt like I was going to be sick.
As if he sensed my presence, he looked up and met my stare. Yeah. I needed to get the fuck out of here. I saw an exit sign in the back and ran for it.
