The next day I woke up feeling anxious about the assessment. I had already picked what I was gonna do. I was gonna throw axes. I went to the dinning room and had some fruit and pancakes.
" So did you guys make allies?" Blight asks
"The careers asked me to join them I thought it was gonna be a great opportunity!" Tristan said excitedly Johanna and Blight looked at each other in disagreement but didn't say anything.
"What about you Cassie did you find any allies?" Blight continues
" I made an alliance with the girl from nine. " I smiled looking down
"That scrawny little thing?" Johanna bursts out
" she's really nice" I say
" I can't" Johanna says then walks out. I shrug and continue eating. She can't change who I ally with. I smile then finish up my breakfast. When it was time. Tristan and I go in the elevator down to the the training centre we have to wait in line with all the other districts. First one then two then three and it goes on and on. Finally the boy from six goes, the cute one. I look down and smile. After he comes out he has a smile on his face. Oh gosh, now it's my turn. I've never been so nervous. What if I mess up what if they-
"Good luck." The boy from six says. I look up and then red.
" Thank you" I say grinning. I look at Tristan and he gives me that I know you like him face. I give him a look. Then the announcement says my name and I get up from sitting on the bench. I look at Aleece and she gives me a thumbs up and a smile. I smile back at her and walk to the training centre. I see rows of weapons and targets. I look up and see a hollowed box we're the gamemakers are watching me. But there not they're dressed in robes and eating and laughing. I find the throwing axes and pick on up. They're still not paying attention. I'm starting to get angry.
"Cassidy Lawdon, district seven" I say through gritted teeth. They stop laughing and are now watching me. I turn away and look at the dummie. I clench my axes in my hand. I pull it behind my back and aim for the heart. I throw with all my strength. It hits the center of the heart with a loud thump. I do this over and over again but aiming for the head. I miss on my two targets. Then they dismiss me. I put the remaining two axes in my hand back and walk out. See Tristan anxiously tapping his foot.
"How'd you do?" He asks
" pretty good, I think" he smiles at me and then his name is called. I pay him on the back
"Good luck." I say then walk to the elevator. Unfortunately I was also in the elevator with the boy from two. Hey, I told myself in my head. Your gonna be fine. He looked about seve. He had short brown hair. He looked really angry knowing that I had rolled my eyes at him at the chariot parade. Oh why is this elevator going so slow? I ask myself. Before he gets of us gives me this intimidating smile. I don't say anything. The elevator closes. Great, I'm probably number one on his kill list. Or on the career list. They probably think I'm weak because I'm only thirteen. I get to floor seven and head to my room. Only three more days till we have to go in that arena. I start breathing more heavily. I all of a sudden feel really dizzy, like I'm gonna faint. Suddenly Lavina bursts in. She looks as she's about to say something then looks at me worried. Then I fell myself falling and everything goes black.
I'm in the forest back at home. Sitting on the tree. How did I get here? I ask myself. I thought I was in the hunger games? I was so confused. Then I heard the crunches of boots and walkie talkies. I know I wasn't supposed to be out here. I panic and look down. Peacekeepers. I hear them talking. They say there looking for a girl. They continue to walk past me. I get down from the tree and follow them making sure they don't see me. They continue to walk to a lake. I see them stop, I mange to find a tree to climb and climb up, not to high otherwise I won't be able to see.
" we found her. " says one peacekeeper into his walkie talkie. I'm confused. The other one picks up a body floating in the lake. She has one wound in her head, a bullet mark. I need to get a closer look at the body to see who it is.
" we think that she might have killed herself. "a peacekeeper says. I get down from the tree as quietly as I can. I find a big rock and throw it far away. It makes a loud thump noise. The peacekeepers run over to we're the thump was. I run over to the body and take a closer look at it. I gasp. I can feel tears in my eyes.
It was Violet.
