"care to tell me why you came to school without your inhaler today?" the nurse, miss jung, rose an eyebrow at the girl who avoided her eyes.
"i wasn't in the right mind this morning.."
"ah, okay," miss jung nodded, "well please make sure to take better care of yourself. that could've been much worse if your friends hadn't taken such quick action."
as soon as the nurse mentioned her friends, kai came into the room, holding a water bottle in one hand and a red bean bun in the other. with a smile, he offered both of them to the girl who sat on the bed.
accepting them, sora smiled in thanks, before letting her eyes fall back to her lap.
"well, isn't that sweet," the nurse grinned at the endearing act, "you must of been very worried."
"of course i was!" kai agreed, "how could i not be? we've known each other for so long, we're basically like family."
feeling her eyes and throat begin to sting at the comment that was said without any hesitation, sora blew out a quiet breath, which hadn't gone unnoticed by miss jung.
"well, thank you, student, but miss sora needs to get some rest now. please go back to class."
looking back at sora one more time as he stood at the door, kai sighed before fully exiting the nurse's office.
"so it's him, isn't it?"
quickly looking up at her in confusion, sora rose an eyebrow, "excuse me?"
"he's the one you love." miss jung shook her head knowingly, tsking a bit.
"is it that obvious?" sora asked, her frown evident as she stared at her lap.
the nurse shook her head, "no, not extremely. i've just seen this happen before."
"you have?"
miss jung nodded, taking a seat at the chair beside her bed, "i remember a boy who had what you have. it was onlya few years ago."
sitting up a bit, sora was immediately interested to hear what the nurse had to say, "can you tell me about him?"
"the boy was normal, and like every one else his age. he was pretty popular and was liked by many people. there were few who could say they didn't know him." she told the story as she stared out the window, "but i remember this one day he was brought into my office, bloody yellow and sky blue petals all over his uniform." miss jung sighed, able to recall every detail as if it was yesterday. "no one could figure out who he was in love with. as he was popular, they assumed he could've just asked her out. so, of course, people just kept asking and asking.."
"then what happened?"
"he told a friend, one he thought he could trust, and word got around the school.."
"what happened to him?"
looking down at her hands, which were neatly placed in her lap, miss jung took a second to regain control of her emotions. plastering a tight-lipped smile on her face, she looked back up at sora's worried eyes, "let's just say, not all stories have happy endings."
leaning back onto the bed, sora blinked, too shocked to do anything else.
all she could do was sit there and stare at the wall, wondering if she would become like the boy; only a distant memory of the past.
