Sirius

Sirius was having a normal day. He had spent his day with the Potters and little Harry.
Remus and peter were planning to join them for lunch later on. He was here as the next order meeting was a few days away.
He sat there wondering about the different aspects of his life..
He had a family, his brothers the marauders. His godson Harry.

Yet not a day went by without the memory of his little brother Reggie. he would always hold a special place in his heart, as no matter what anybody tried, he's always be his brother.
He was brought out of his reverie with a sudden pop and the arrival of a sickly looking elf.
It was kreacher, he normally would have said something insulting but for some reason he looked devastated as if something terrible had happened.

Only one word echoed in his mind. Regulus. Had something happened to him! Was he thinking of deflecting finally? Would he come back to him? Did his bitch of a mother finally give out?
"Kreacher! What happened?"
Kreacher's sobs turned to loud wails as Sirius went from confused to worried in a matter of seconds.

"Is it Regulus? What happened to him? "
Hearing this the house elf's wails increased in volume and he broke down.
"Tell me what happened Kreacher! Please."
"M-mas-ster-r R-r-egulus went w-where bad voldy took K-kreacher. H-he h-he.. "
Kreacher was too distraught to actually complete his sentence. But Sirius could see that it would end no where good.
"He what Kreacher? What happened to Reggie? "
"H-he's gone."

Sirius froze. He sat down right there on the floor, unable to stand by himself any longer. His face had gone blank, void of any emotion.
Gone! He couldn't believe it. Was Kreacher actually saying the truth. Would he never see his baby brother again?
He turned back to face Kreacher noticing kreacher was holding what seemed to be a journal of some sort.
"What are you holding Kreacher? "
"M-mast-ter t-told Kreacher to give this to his b-brother, and help b-brother with finishing the t-task."
Task...?
What task would his brother leave him to finish? With shaky hands, he took the book from the house elf's scrawny hands.

As he opened the book, an envelope fell out having his name written on top with the familiar elegant scrawl he'd known from childhood.
He slowly opened it, almost like a little child checking for monster under his bed.

Dear Siri,
If you are reading this I'm probably no longer a part of this world. I'm sorry for not being the brother you deserved. You were right, the dark lord is not the way to survive. I realized this late but not too late as I made my mind to find a way to ensure his defeat. I made this decision to be of some help in his defeat and for you and other people to have a better life.
By the time this reaches you I have already started the process.
I hope you are doing well. I hope you are content and happy with the Potters and I wish you and your friends a happy long life.
I'm truly sorry for not listening to you. I wish we had more time together. Once again I am truly sorry.
I love you big brother.
Love,
Reg.

He finished the letter with a single tear falling on to the paper. But not wanting to show anything in front of Kreacher, he quickly wiped it away and straightened his shoulders.
"You may leave now Kreacher. I will call you back later and make sure not to say a word of this to anyone else.
I-i will make sure to finish the task."

He said the last sentence with a hint of gentleness watching the sickly elf so unlike himself.
He noticed the elf look a little bit better hearing his words and squaring his shoulders as if to hold himself together.
"Y-yes m-master S-sirius."

Following the sound of apparition, the room was left in silence except for Sirius' ragged breaths.
All the emotions he had been holding to stay strong in front of the elf all came out in a single breath. He cried and cried, for his late brother who never got to live his life, for all the time he had lost with his dear brother.
After what seemed like hours had passed, Sirius finally got up from his spot on the floor and decided to actually check the book that he had been left with.
