***Trigger Warning - Panic Attack***
Tony's POV
I opened the door for Peter, and he smiled at me as he stepped in the back. I got in, and told Happy to start the car, and he pulled the privacy shield up.
Peter seemed to be sinking in his seat, making him look like a little kid. It reminded me of Scott. I smiled at the memory of Scott waddling around the tower, frustrated while we all made fun of him. Good times.
"So, uh how is school?" Ugh, I sound so domestic.
"Good," he says in a small voice. He keeps fidgeting with the edge of his sleeve, and picks at his fingernails. Is he nervous? Do I make him nervous?
"Any drama at school?" I tease him, trying to keep him talking. He shakes his head.
"N-not that I know of. Uhm, so why- why did you go out of your way to pick me up for the- uh the internship? A-and why me, of a-all people? Why did you choose me?" He asked questioningly, still staring at the floor. He was still speaking quietly and with a sense of discomfort.
"Well, I could tell that you were special. You were different from the others, and you showed your ability, and you were amazing. You should be proud of yourself, kid." I smiled. "I know I am." He finally made eye contact with me, and I couldn't help but melt into his big, chocolate, brown eyes.
"You- you really mean that?"
"Of course. You are the most talented kid I've ever met. You're gonna do great, kid." He smiled giddily at me, no longer fiddling with his sleeves.
"I'm excited. W-where am I going to be working again? The uh- the intern floors, right? I can't wait!" I chuckled at that.
"Well uh- no." He frowned, clearly confused. "Kid, your intelligence level matches mine. I've seen your IQ. I was actually thinking that you be my personal intern. Kind of a mentorship sort of thing. You'd get to work with me in my personal lab, and just hang out." His eyes were wide and his mouth was hanging open. He seemed pretty speechless.
After a couple minutes of what looked like some very deep thinking on his part, he smiled the widest smile I've ever seen. I've said it once, and I'll say it again.
I will murder anyone who makes him lose that smile.
Peter's POV
No. Way.
He wants me to be his PERSONAL INTERN??!!
"Does that sound good to you?" I turned to look at him and I nodded shakily. This doesn't seem real. He actually chose me out of a group of the smartest kids in New York. I just might die.
Oh wait.
This is a joke, isn't it?
I tried not to show my disappointment, but I knew I probably looked like my eyes were going to pop out of my eye sockets.
Even if it wasn't a joke, if I mess up just a little, I know I'll be fired just like that. I have never been so nervous. May knows that I will screw up like always, and she'll remind me that I'll never amount to anything. She is always right.
