Adam's POV
I stared at the sign for twenty minuets wondering if I should go in or not.
"Hello," said a voice beside me.
I yelled and I looked at a guy who looked like me but older. He smiled.
"W-who are you?" I asked with fear in my voice.
He laughed. "I'm Randal. The older version of you. Well. An imaginary older you," he said, "we're in your subconscious and this is the world you made."
I stared at him with a blank expression on my face.
"So let me get this straight," I said, "right now I'm dreaming this whole thing while I'm actually in surgery in the real world?"
"Yep," he said, "come on I'll show you around."
Randal started walking towards the city and I followed him. The city was small and it reminded me of Owatonna. A smile spread across my face as I looked around. The shops, houses, the park and other things seemed strangely familiar.
"Recognizing anything?" Randal asked as we saw owls fly over us.
I looked at him.
"Sort of," I replied, still looking at everything in awe.
The older me chuckled and I looked at him again.
"It should look familiar to you since you've been here before," he told me, "when you were fourteen right after dad took his anger from his job out on you and-"
"And in all of the chaos and confusion I made this place to get away from my father," I finished as I looked at Randal.
He half-smiled and I looked around the city again. It's nice and quiet.
"Can I live here?" I asked
Randal frowned. "No. No you can't. If you lived here that means you die in the real world and you leave Bre. Which we both know how much she means to us."
My face grew hot and I sighed. I opened my mouth to speak but a loud ringing noise suddenly rang through the city and I started screaming. Randal made me lay down.
"Adam, calm down. You're waking up after being unconscious," he explained, "listen to me carefully: you can visit here anytime and..." He leaned close and whispered something in my ear.
I stopped screaming and I felt calm. Randal told me he'll seen me around then he waved his hand over my face and I saw a bright white light.
------/------/------
I opened my eyes and I saw Breanne forcing herself to stay awake. A smile spread across my face as I said jokingly,
"Hey sleepyhead."
