Happy Reading!

Yep, I finally did that.

This is Julia

This is Mark

Mary, Julia's grandmother and thoughts.

◇◇◇

The phone rang as soon as Julia stepped into her home. The smell of cookies waft through  the air and a smile formed on her lips when she saw her grandmother in the kitchen by the cooker. For a woman her age, she had more energy than her. And Julia had to teach seven year olds.

She reached inside her purse for the phone and closed the door with her foot.

"I literally just walked into my apartment."

"Then I have impeccable timing."

"Don't you have a life outside bothering me?"

"That question should be directed to you. But in case you really want to know, then yes I do have a life."

"I hope it doesn't revolve around me then."

"My my, little Julia, do you want my life to revolve around you?"

She reached the kitchen and put her purse on the counter.

"Good evening, grandma."

"Okay, that was odd. Do you take pleasure in hurting me?"

She ignored Mark as her grandmother looked up and smiled. The smile brought warmth inside Julia's stomach. She had been raised by this woman and she was the most important person in her life. Followed closely by Beth, Julia's best friend.

"Good evening, sweetheart. How was work?"

"Who is the lady with the beautiful voice."

"It was alright for the most part. Ben was being trouble again."

"Who is Ben? And if he is giving you trouble, I could kick his ass."

She removed the phone from her ear so she could focus on her grandmother more.

"That boy will never learn. I hope you put him in the corner again."

"Is that slang for putting him in his place? And why does your voice sound so distant?"

"I did. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better."

"It will. I just know it."

"Thanks. So did you have fun at the centre?"

"You know I always have fun when I go there."

"It wouldn't hurt to add me in this conversation, little Julia."

"I think now it has been a little more fun. Did Mr Ross finally popped the question?"

"Yes, finally. I actually thought he'd never ask. I showed my knees to him the other day."

Julia couldn't help but let out a laugh at that. In the distance she could hear Mark's voice coming through her cell phone.

"He must be one lucky fella."

"That's great, grandma. I am so happy for you. Do I hear wedding bells ringing soon?"

Her grandmother chuckled and let out a cough a few seconds later. The smile didn't waiver from her wrinkled skin. The sides of her eyes crinkled in familiar laugh lines.

"don't be silly, Esme. I know you like entertaining an old lady but let's not count the eggs before they hatch."

"Esme?"

Julia smiled fondly at her grandmother. "If you say so, gran. But it'd be his lost if he waits too long."

Mary winked at Julia. "Don't think much about it, sweetheart. You know I still got it."

"Your grandmother sounds hot."

"...."

Mary looked at her granddaughter for a while and noticed the cell phone in her hands. Julia had been spending a lot of time on that thing. She wondered if it was that Dale guy. Mary didn't like him. Something at the pit of her stomach told her he was bad news but he had to let her granddaughter make her own mistakes.

"Who is that on the phone?"

"Finally, someone acknowledges my existence."

"Just some sales person."

"Ouch! That almost caused a crack, Julia."

"They really have been calling you a lot lately, even late in the night."

"Yeah, stupid sales people."

"I am offended for all the sales people out there."

"Honey, I might be 80 but I am not stupid. Is it Dale?"

"Who's Dale?"

"Stop calling me, sales person!"

"Hello? Hello? Julia? Damn it!"
