Leander
FINALLY IT WAS SATURDAY AND ONE MORE DAY WITH SUN. This city has a very crazy weather. Yesterday it was raining and today it was hot and sunny. I don't know how long I will endure this instability.
Today was the day that Ariane and the group planned to go to the beach and I was going with them even though I preferred to spend the day with Samantha. I have been to the beach a few times in summers I spent with my father. It is like a prototype of a private beach and does not compare with the ones in Citane.
The trip in Drew's car was quick and not because it was a powerful vehicle, but because the city is small as an egg, so moving around here is always fast.
The place was a little different from what I remembered. The sand was nicer and the water looked cleaner. I remember that when I was younger I didn't like to go swimming because the water was always so dark with mud on the rocks and I was afraid, because I couldn't see the bottom.
Some tents selling food and drinks appeared there as well and some spots had public showers shaped like dolphins. The bathrooms also looked renovated. The whole environment had a new appearance as a place for leisure.
With the sun and the new things on the beach, I was not surprised that the place was full and mainly of young people.
As my group settled in an area, I looked around and saw several familiar faces from school or the neighborhood. It was funny to see how people seemed to reflect the sun because skin was so white. In Citane we would all be tanned naturally or artificially.
Suddenly I saw a group of young people who were not at school. They looked older. And she was with them. Samantha. What was she doing here? In addition to her there were two more girls and three boys. One of the boys was standing very close to her as if they were coming together. As far as I knew she had no friends or boyfriend.
They were settling in and one of the boys took cans of beer for the others - which proved they are of legal age - she removed the shirt and shorts she was wearing and for a moment I didn't know if I was ready for this scene. The beer boy hissed and laughed. The other who seemed to have come with her turned to him, shaking his head and turning his index finger in the air as if calling him crazy. She laughed.
I decided to walk towards her. I was too curious to know what was going on there, and I also didn't want to be rude to see her and not to greet her.
The beer boy seemed to continue with the silliness offering a can to her and received a laugh back. The other boy seemed increasingly irritated with his friend. Was she going out with him or something? If so, I would already know that I would have no chance with her.
I was beginning to think that going there might be a bad idea. The boy was huge, much bigger than me and it would take just one punch to knock me down. She was able to leave any man speechless. So any slip of mine over there would make that cranky kid punch me for sure.
It was then that I realized that it wasn't just me who was staring at her with mouth ridiculously open. Others in the dressing room were just as bewildered.
She called attention easily, first because she had that annoying symmetry that made her perfect and second she managed to be paler than the rest of the city.
When I approached she was bending down to line a sarong on the sand in a shady area.
"Did you miss something here, boy?" The cranky boy quickly said while I was standing behind her watching the scene. I looked at him quickly, but I couldn't get a good response out of my mouth. The other two boys laughed.
