Jordan- Benji

3 1 1

I was walking home, the snow falling around me in disarray. The taste of the hot chocolate was still on my tongue, the smell of the coffee shop was still in my nose, and the picture of star boy was still in my mind.

A car pulled up next to me, it was a sleek red, and obviously didn't fit in with the snow. The tinted window rolled down and there was Jordan.

"You're walking home? In the snow?" He asked.

"Uh yeah, where'd you get the car?" I asked.

"Doesn't matter, hop in. We haven't talked in months!" I ran around the car and opened the door. Everything about the car seemed expensive, I felt bad sitting in it.

"Wait aren't you still fifteen? How do you have your license?" I asked.

"I don't!" He laughed and hit the gas.

Here a couple things you need to know about Jordan. We had been friends since middle school, he was in the popular group. Somehow I was pulled into it, and I started hanging out with all his friends. I had a couple closer friends in the group but other than that I was pretty sure no one wanted me there. Jordan was suspended last year for smoking and selling cigarettes, and from what I heard he made a whole lot of money off of it. He pulled the loser freshman aside and sold them the cigarettes way overpriced.

We never really stopped being friends, he just stopped answering my calls. It started to take him days to respond to my texts and he started to drift away. But to be completely honest I couldn't care less. It showed me how shitty people could be and so I decided to ignore them all together.

But now I was here in Jordans car, the radio blasting, going way over the speed limit, and ready to crash at any moment.

"So what's up with you?" He asked. I didn't really want to bring up my birthday so I just shrugged. "Come on, say something!"
"How's things with you and Kate?" I asked. Kate was Jordans psychotic girlfriend. She thought it was a personality trait to show up late and date a black guy. She said I was 'cute' cause I was quiet. If only she knew how much I wanted to rip her damn head off.

"She's so pretty dude! Just so amazing, she's about to let me meet her parents." He said with a smile.

"Sounds like fun." I said getting tired of the subject already.

"Yeah! Do you have a girlfriend?" He asked.

"No." I responded. I didn't want to talk to Jordan, I found myself wishing I was talking to Aaron. It was so much better when I talked to Aaron.

"Hey my brother's girlfriend's sister has a friend that I could set you up with!" He offered.

"No, it's fine." I told him.

"Whatever you say bro, but take a chance on her." He smiled. I wondered how star boy would feel about Jordan. I have a feeling he would not like him. I didn't like me around Jordan, but what could I do, he was the only chance I had at a normal high school friendship.

"This is my house." I said quickly. He parked the car, hitting the curb and causing the car to jolt forward.

"See you later dude!" He smiled. "Oh and I'm gonna set you up with her!" He rolled up his window and started to drive away before I could protest. I sighed and walked up to the house. Only a few seconds after I stepped through the door I got a text from an unknown number.

Hey! This is Lilith, Jordan gave me your number. This is Benji right? I sighed and kicked off my shoes before running up to my bedroom.

Yeah

Great! We should meet up sometime!

Okay

Are you free on friday?
Probably

Wanna meet at the new restaurant that opened up? Around like 6?

Sure

It's a date!

Okay, see you there.

I closed my phone, I obviously wasn't trying very hard. I heard my phone buzz, so I picked it up. It was another unknown number.

Is this Benji?

Yeah, who is this?

Star boy, and just so you hot chocolate is fundamentally better than coffee according to science, but in my opinion coffee wins by a landslide.

Well star boy, hot chocolate will always win in my book. Just like how the moon will always win over the sun and the stars will always win over the clouds.

The stars and the clouds aren't opposites

SHHH... i said what i said

I smiled and put down my phone. Maybe Jordan was a bad example for my conclusion, maybe not all people are shitty. Maybe some are actually kind of okay.
