Benji was out on a date with Lillith. It was bothering me more than it should've, but I pushed down the feelings. I was drinking coffee in the cafe as Naiomi watched a show about romance or something.
The bell at the door jingled and I looked up. Avery was standing there, her hair falling over her shoulders. She walked up to the counter and smiled at Naiomi.
"Could I have a Raspberry Refresher?" She asked.
"This isn't a Starbucks." Naiomi responded.
"Oh, well then I'll have a lemonade." She smiled. Naiomi clicked a couple buttons and smiled fakely.
"That's four dollars and ninety cents." She said.
"But it says on the menu it's only two dollars and forty five cents." Avery said, confused."I doubled it." Naiomi said and shot me a look. Avery looked over and caught my eye.
"Oh." She said and gave her the money. She walked over to where I was sitting and sat down across from me. She smiled and took a sip of the lemonade.
"Why are you sitting here?" I asked.
"You look cute today." She said ignoring the question.
"The fuck- why are you here?" I asked again.
"Aaron listen up, I have been saying sorry for forever. All your friends left you after the...accident...and now all you have is that weird boy Benji. Who if you hadn't noticed is dating some Eastside High girl, so you have no chance there." She rambled on.
"Wait, stop. Who said I liked Benji?" I asked.
"Oh don't kid yourself, you're always talking to him, and he is like your only friend. But I have an idea." She smiled.
"Will you leave after you tell me?" I asked. She nodded and went off into her speech.
"So if you give up on Benji we could all be friends. All of the best friend groups are made up of two boys and one girl. Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and uh...like a billion others. And it makes perfect sense as well! You can be the boring protagonist, Benji seems like a loveable idiot, and I'll be the smart girl."
"You're not that smart." I told her.
"I'm gonna pretend you never said that. Also the boring protagonist and the smart girl always get together in the end!"
"Hermione and Ron got together." I reminded her.
"Shut up. Anyway what I'm saying is, we should get back together, because your chances with Benji are slim to none." She finished.
"Jesus Christ." Naiomi laughed from the desk and walked into the back.
"First off, I would never get back together with you. You're a jerk, and you cheated on me. Second off I don't like Benji." I told her.
"Listen Aaron, if you don't want to get back together I don't care. Just don't date him." She said.
"Why not?" I asked, suddenly defensive.
"Because, I don't want you to." She said.
"I don't care what you want Avery. I will date anyone I want."
"So you do like him?" She asked.
"No- I mean yes, but as a friend." I told her.
"When you said you were bisexual I just assumed you liked every tall handsome guy you met. Turns out I was wrong. Anyway enjoy your evening and think about my offer, we could be a great couple!" She smiled. I stuck up my middle finger at her as she walked out of the cafe. But now all I could think of was Benji.
