I was sitting on my roof, which I did often. My therapist said that my progress had been astronomical and I was starting to get better.
The summer days were coming to a close, and I was excited for winter to start. But for right now I enjoyed the heat, as I stared at the stars.
"Hey star boy!" A voice said from below me. I looked down and saw Benji looking at me from the ground.
"What do you want?" I asked, my voice dripping with sarcastic annoyance.
"I want hot chocolate." He said.
"It's summer!" I yelled back.
"So? Hot chocolate is a year round drink! It's so good and actually is better for you than coffee ever was."
"I told you that!" I yelled back.
"I know, so do you have hot chocolate." He asked. I stood up and smiled.
"Of course I do." I told him. "I'll be right there!"
"Hell yeah!" I climbed into my room and ran down the stairs. I stopped at Naiomi's room which was pretty much empty, with only a couple things left. Naiomi had gone to college to study business, so she wanted to open her own coffee shop. I closed her door before I could get sad and ran down the stairs.
"Woah! Where are you going in such a hurry?" My dad asked.
"Hot chocolate." I responded.
"Oh Benji is here." He said with a smile.
"Shut up!" I said and grabbed two mugs. Hot chocolate was easy to make so it was the perfect drink to give Benji.
I walked outside where Benji was standing next to his car. Yeah he finally turned sixteen and he has saved up for months to buy the car. His parents had gotten new jobs and were getting a fairly high income.
"Oh yay!" Benji said and grabbed the mug from me. "Oo this is really good!"
"Good, drink it all, or I'll force it down your throat." I said.
"Oh I'm so scared!" He laughed.
"I'll kill you." I threatened and took another sip of hot chocolate. He wrapped his arm around me and laughed.
"It's cute that you think you'll get the chance. I'll kill you first." He said. We stood there for a little bit longer and drank our hot chocolate in silence. I tried to think back to when we were kids, and I saw Benji for the first time. He was staring at the ground, I was staring at the sky. Now we were both here staring at each other.
"It's perfect." He whispered. I remembered when we went to Lovers field, he whispered something under his breath. I don't think he thought I heard, but I did.
"I love you to Benji." I said quietly. He smiled, and I knew he heard. All we needed right now was each other and the stars.
