You felt like you wanted to scream, your heart nearly exploding as you watched in what felt like slow motion, the bullet slowly crawling towards her, gliding through the air. Lucifer didn't know what was happening, the smile he had was fading away slower than the bullet was traveling. Your eyes glossed over with tears as you prayed, you would normally find humor in that but now was not the time.

Time went back to normal as the bullet pierced her shoulder, causing Chloe to spin at the impact. Lucifer caught her before she hit the ground while you were running towards the shooter. Your body tensed as you tackled him to the ground, tightening your jaw as you grabbed the collar of his shirt in a tight ball, sending your clenched fist through his face, punch after punch. You could taste the blood in your mouth as he begged you to stop, your ears ringing from the gunshot.

And then you heard it. Through the ringing, through the punching, through the thoughts of death and revenge. "Y/N, please, stop." Her voice was soft, but you heard it and it was enough to make you stop.

You got to your feet as Lucifer made his way to you, resting a hand on your shoulder. "I'll handle this piece of trash," he assured you, his eyes glaring at the man, whose face was covered in blood that you couldn't really tell what he looked like anymore. The man shook in fear as you turned to look at Chloe just as the police slowly started entering the scene, her eyes wide with fear. At your anger? That could be the only possibility. You scared Chloe.

It was just her that existed at this moment, the oncoming police and medics fading into the background. That look of terror on her face as all these feelings immediately replaced the anger. Shame made you look away from her and disappointment made you walk away.

----------------------------------------------------

"Sorry, Detective, but she's still not here," you heard Lucifer say, your head pressed against the wall you were hiding behind, your eyes staring at yourself in the mirror on the wall across from you. Your demon face revealed, making it even harder for you to face her knowing what you were.

"You'll message me when you see her, right?" You couldn't help but smile, her voice making your heart flutter as you almost walked out there to assure her that you were okay, but that look of fear etched on her face was seared into your mind that it made you slowly fall to the floor, hugging your knees to your chest.

"Of course," Lucifer promised. "You'll be the first one I'll reach out to."

You listened to the elevator ding as she left, resting your head against the wall behind you as Lucifer rounded the corner, looking down at you with a raised eyebrow. "Shut up."

"Why don't you just talk to her?"

You sighed, squeezing your knees tighter. "She's scared of me."

Lucifer sighed as he kneeled to get down to your height, resting a gentle hand on your shoulder. "It's been weeks, Y/N," he said. "She's been here ever since the incident asking for you. She's clearly not scared of you." He patted you on the shoulder as he stood back up. "Why don't you get out of the penthouse for once? She already came by today, so she won't be back until tomorrow. Go get me a pack of cigarettes. My wallet's on the bar." He started to walk away, but stopped to look back at you to add, "Don't forget to put away that." He gestured to his own face with a smile before actually walking away.

You breathed out heavily as you climbed to your feet, walking over to the bar to pocket his wallet before making your way to the elevator.

You stepped out of Lux, the sun shining on your face with a warmth you haven't felt in a while. Walking down the street, you breathed in the fresh, non-alcohol air. You managed to reach the end of the street before you heard her call out your name, making you stop cold in your steps as your heart leaped into your throat.

She ran ahead of you, standing in front of you as you looked into her eyes. "You're avoiding me."

"No," you stated, crossing your arms over your chest. She was very close to you. "I'm not avoiding you."

"You just came out of Lux, the same place where Lucifer said you weren't not even ten minutes ago," she declared. "I'm a detective, remember?" She rolled her eyes and sighed, her voice coming out softer now as she said, "Please, Y/N. Tell me what I did."

You looked down at the ground for a moment as your arms fell to your sides in defeat, straightening your form as you suddenly got a boost of confidence. "You didn't do anything," you confessed. "It was me." You shook your head. "You got shot and I got so mad. I almost killed that man with my fists and that scared you."

Chloe furrowed her eyebrows and scoffed. "You didn't scare me, Y/N," she promised, her eyes melting into yours. "I just got shot."

Your eyes widened a little bit at her words. Of course she was scared, she just got shot. She was in pain and sometimes pain causes fear. She wasn't scared of you, she was scared of her pain.

She laughed at your expression, causing a small smile to tug your lips. "You've been avoiding me for weeks and I missed you," she stated. You tilted your head to the side in confusion when she placed her hands on your arms, bringing you a step closer to her. "I'm pissed that you've been avoiding me, but I love you."

"You..."

"Yes." She nodded as a smile landed on her face.

"But you know I'm a..."

She shook her head, placing her hands on either side of your face. "I love you, Y/N."

You closed the distance between you and her, your lips fitting together like a puzzle piece as you rested a hand on the back of her neck. "I love you, Chloe." You smiled widely as you pulled away from her. "How about we go on our first date?"

"Right now?"

You nodded as you reached into your pocket and pulled out the wallet. "Lucifer's treat."

She laughed as she intertwined her fingers through yours, your face lighting up brighter than the sun as you walked down the street. You've never felt happier.
