Asher watched his boyfriend move around the kitchen. He smiled. Asif didn't seem to notice his gaze lingering, or if he did, he didn't mind.
Asif returned to the living room with a beer in each hand. He beamed, handing the bottle to Asher. He flopped down on the couch next to Asher and leaned in, nudging his way under Asher's arm.
Asher pulled Asif closer. "How was your day?" he asked, flipping through channels on the tv absently. He felt Asif sigh against his chest.
"Exhausting."
Asher chuckled. "Kenny show late again?"
Asif nodded. "I really need a new bassist."
Asher reached his hand up from Asif's shoulder and brushed down his hair soothingly. "Yeah, you really do."
Asif tapped Asher's knee sharply, as he often did when he remembered something. "Oh! Did you see same-sex marriage passed nationally today?"
"Holy shit, really?" Asher looked down at his boyfriend. New York had passed it a few years ago, but Asher never thought it would be nationwide. This was not the same world he grew up in, and he couldn't be more thankful.
Asif nodded. "Crazy, right?" He pulled his legs up on the couch, relaxing against Asher. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and started scrolling through a few apps. He hummed softly to himself as he did.
Asher smiled as he watched Asif. It had been a long time since Asher felt so comfortable. Maybe never. "Hey," he said softly to Asif.
Asif glanced up from his phone. "Hm?"
Asher grinned. "Wanna get married?"
Asif's expression dropped. "Are you serious?" he asked quietly.
Asher nodded. "I mean it."
Without speaking, Asif turned and sat up on his knees on the couch. "Asher," he began, watching him closely. "Are you really asking me to marry you?"
Asher laughed and wrapped his arms around Asif, pulling him in against his body. "Asif Hassen, would you please marry me?"
Asif's face split into a grin, and he nodded. He laughed, showering Asher's face with kisses.
Asher blushed, ducking away from the onslaught. "Is that a yes?" he asked, laughing.
Asif held Asher's face in his hands softly, and kissed him. "It's a yes."
Asher wrapped one arm around Asif's waist and gently flipped him onto the couch. He sat comfortably between Asif's hips and smiled. "I love you," he said softly, leaning down to kiss Asif.
Asif's breath shuddered when Asher's lips pressed against his. "I love you too," he murmured, pulling Asher's body against his own. Asher rolled his hips as he complied with Asif tugging on his shirt. Asif gasped softly against Asher's lips.
Asher smiled. He pulled back, gazing down at Asif. "God, you're wonderful," he said softly. "I can't wait to marry you."
Asif flushed hard, and burst into a grin. "We're getting married," he laughed. "Holy shit," he breathed.
Asher sat back on his heels. "Oh shit, I should probably call a few people." He chuckled under his breath and leaned down again, brushing his nose against Asif's. "Rain check?"
Asif sighed and pouted for a moment, but sat up on his elbows. "Rain check."
