i woke up early on the first day of classes. Don't mess up i kept thinking for fuck sake please don't mess up. i had barely slept the night before, my eyes were sunken in and purple bags had formed underneath them. hermione walked me to my first lesson, potions, despite not having the class herself. She waited with me by the door as pupils began to file into the classroom, i gave her a quick wave goodbye before i followed the people in. This was the bit i was dreading, finding a place to sit, my eyes darted around the room trying to find a free seat. Every one seemed to fill as i made my way over to them. After a few minutes had past all the seats were full, except for one. The seat was inbetween draco and another slytherin boy, both were smirking as i walked over. "draco," i began, "can i sit there, please it's the only free seat." i begged, almost simultaneously, draco pulled his bag from underneath him and placed it on the free seat, "sorry" he said sarcastically, "its taken." The slytherin boy turned to him, "Draco don't be a dick," draco frowned at him. "it's taken," he repeated. I felt tears prick at the back of my eyes as my cheeks turned hot, that slytherin boy was right, why was he being a dick, what had i done to him, what gives him the right to- "draco," said a monotone voice, i turned around to see a tall, uneasy man with greasy shoulder length hair scowling at draco. "please move you bag" the voice said again. Draco stared up at the man clearly shocked, "i won't ask you again," said the man. Defeated, draco pulled down his bag, i heard sniggers coming from other class mates behind me. embarrassed, i quickly shuffled my way around the table, and took my seat. Out of the corner of my eye i could see draco looking at me with intense fury in his gaze. I quickly busied myself by taking my things out my bag. Draco eventually moved his cold stare to the other side of the classroom and i let out a breath of relief. "Where you from then?" i turned my head to see the slytherin boy looking at me with curiosity, I opened my mouth to speak but Draco got there first. "why do you care zabini?" Draco said barely even looking up from his work, the boy scoffed "i don't, just trying to fill this painful silence," the boy snapped back. "who does snape think he is?" Draco said bluntly, slamming his quill down. "embarrassing me like that in front of everyone! And making me sit by her," the way he spoke about me as if i wasn't there made me extremely uncomfortable. I felt my cheeks getting hot again, my head began to feel light, could this lesson please hurry up.

i watched as the clock on the wall ticked on and on, professor snapes slow monotone voice made the lesson only feel longer. i couldn't have been more relieved to hear the bell.

I began to pack my things up as quickly as i could, i stuffed my text book messily into my bag, threw the strap over my shoulder and headed for the door as fast as i could. That lesson was painful, i didn't want to stay here any longer then i needed to. "miss james?" with clenched fists i turned around and plastered on a fake smile, "yes professor?" He pointed toward my desk, which was now covered in big blotches of thick black ink. It seemed that in my hurry to get out of the classroom i had unknowingly knocked over an ink pot. "Clean it up before it stains and i give you more detentions then you've had hot dinners" he said harshly before scurrying out of the classroom. With a sigh, i put my bag back down again before taking a handful of tissues to the table. The horrid stench of ink was making me feel light headed. "made a mess have you?" a cool voice said from behind me, i recognized it immediately. Oh for fuck sake. i didn't have the energy to fight with him. My hands were stained black, my head was pounding and my stomach had dropped. Ignoring him, i carried the tissues over to the bin before placing the strap of my bag over my shoulder. avoiding as much eye contact with him as i could, i made my way over to the door. Just as i reached it, he jumped in front of me, blocking my exit. " didn't your parents ever tell you to answer when someone's talking to you" he asked dryly, raising an eyebrow at me. Our bodies were only inches apart. I looked away from him trying to disguise the frustrated tears forming in my eyes. Draco noticed. "are you crying?" He said, genuinely puzzled. I took a deep breath before looking back at him. "Malfoy, please just fucking move." He stayed put. Annoyed, i pushed his arm out of the way before barging past him. I began walking as fast as i could, i turned and had one last glance at him, he looked pleased with himself, smirking away. Tears began to prick in my eyes as i made my way over to charms.

The rest of the lessons that day went smoothly. I made friends with some raven claw girls in herbology and discovered a talent in transfiguration. By the end of the day i had practically forgotten about the mornings escapade. I saw malfoy a couple times i'm the hallways but we both avoided eye contact. i wanted to tell ginny what happened in the classroom with malfoy, but as i sat down next to her and the group of gryffindors at dinner, i couldn't bring myself to say it. Dinner came and went. i barely touched my food, i still had so much on my mind. i managed to slip away to the dorms at the first chance i got. i slept ever so slightly better that night, i still occasionally woke up in cold sweats, with the blankets folded up messily around me. The next couple of days past uneventfully. I hopped from lesson to lesson with ease, with no interruption from malfoy. On Fridays  potions lesson snape announced a new assignment, an essay. The whole class released a sigh to which snape scolded us. I seemed to be the only one unbothered by this, from attending a muggle school, essays were nothing new. i crossed my arms and peered around the room. I saw seamus finnigan on the table opposite me huffing and puffing at the assignment. "seamus," i called over "it'll be fine, essays are no biggie," i said assuringly, he looked up at me and smiled. "This is such bullshit," i heard a voice from beside me exclaim, i didn't need to look to know the comment came from malfoy. "i expect all essays in by monday mornings lesson, no excuses" Snape snapped. As the bell rang i packed up my things slowly as the other pupils filed out of the class. This week had passed extremely slow and i was looking forward to a nice relaxing Friday evening. I flung my bag over my shoulder, tucked my hair behind my ears and made my way out of the class, "there you are" i span around, "took you long enough." Draco was leaning against the wall outside the classroom staring at me. "what do you want malfoy?" i said bluntly as i began to walk away from him. He quickly ran to catch up, "hey no need to be rude," "what? you mean like you are to me?" i Asked stopping to lean against the wall. He looked up and down the empty hallway before placing his arm on the wall next to me. "i need a favour okay?" he whispered softly, almost afraid someone might hear him. was he joking? i thought to myself, "dream on," i chuckled ducking under his arm to get away. He caught my hand before i'd managed to walk to far, "listen, if i fail this assignment my dad will give me crap for it okay. i figured you're kind of good at writing so...," This was the first time he had ever spoken to me in a genuine tone. oh my god i thought. He's actually asking me for help. i shook my hand free from his grasp, "you want my help?" i asked, my face screwing up into a puzzled expression. "meet me in the slytherin
common room, no earlier then 10:30 tonight." Not knowing whether to agree or not i simple laughed at him, before turning and walking away.

Perhaps tonight wasn't going to be the relaxing friday evening i had hoped for.
