"A giant serpant! That's why I've been hearing voices and no one else can, I'm a parseltongue..." Harry continued."But if it kills people by looking at them, how come no one's died?" Ron asked.
"Maybe because no one looked it dead in it's eyes. Colin saw it through his camera. The Basilisk burned up the film inside it, but Colin was just petrified. Justin must've seen it through Nearly Headless Nick! Nick got the full blast, but he couldn't die again... and Hermione and that Penelope Clearwater were found with mirrors in their hand, Hermione had just found out that the monster was a Basilisk, so she would definatley have warned the first person she saw." I explained.
"What about Mrs Norris?" Ron whispered eagerly.
I thought hard but nothing came to mind.
"The water from Myrtles bathroom, she must've only seen the reflection." Harry said.
"And Hagrids roosters were killed, remember it said thats crowing roosters are fatal to it." I said, wide eyed.
"But how did no one see it?" Harry pondered.
"Look here, Hermione wrote pipes down, it must be travelling through the pipes."
"That's why I've been hearing voices in the walls."
Ron quickly grabbed my arm and said. "What if... What if the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets is in Myrtles bathroom."
"We should go see Professor McGonagall, she'll be in the staffroom in about ten minutes, it's nearly break." I said, giving them both a pat on the back.
We sprinted down the stairs, not wanting to be discovered hanging around in another corridor, and straight into the deserted staff room. We paced around for about five minutes, but the bell signalling break time never came.
In it's place, echoeing through the corridors, came the footsteps and voice of Professor McGonagall, magically magnified.
"All students return to their dormatories at once. All teachers return to the staff room. Immediatly please."
I quickly looked at the two boys.
"Not another attack? Not now?" I said, my body filled with panic.
"What do we do?" Asked Ron, aghast. "Go back to the dorm?"
"No." Said Harry, glancing around. There was an ugly wardrobe to his left, full of the teachers cloaks.
"Guys, let's hide in here and see what this is all about, then we'll tell them what we jave found out." I said, gaining a nod from them both.
We slipped inside, listening to the rumbling of hundreds of people moving overhead, and the staff room doors flung open. From between the musty folds of the cloaks, we watched the teachers filtering into the room. Some of them were looking puzzled, others downright terrified.
Then Professor McGonagall arrived.
"It has happened," she told the dead silent staff room. "A student has been taken by the monster. Right into the Chamber itself."
The room erupted with hushed whispers and murmers. Professor Flitwick looked like he was having a heart attack.
"How can you be sure?" Snape asked.
"The heir if Slytherin has left another message, right underneath the original one. Her skeleton will lie in the chamber forever." Professor McGonagall said, looking as white as snow.
"Which student was taken Minerva?" Asked Madam Hooch.
"Ginny Weasley."
I felt Ron slide down the wardrobe in silence, I felt devastated for him.
