Chapter 39

Such a sad time.

How could Marcus humiliate her this way? He is such a bloody fool said Eva furious and sickened of his drunken treatment of their wonderful party a little over a month ago know.
At the time she felt a fairy princess wearing her first grown up dress for her engagement to an idiot summing up in one word.
She knew from before Marcus never followed societies rules for that matter and cold hearted rejected her infront of others.
She didn't see all the people in the room because she ran out of the room to sanctuary.

On the grape vine after arriving home Eva heard Marcus was blacklisted from his family and friends.
All she could do is be saddened by this decision of the ton, now Marcus has a real good reason to never come back into her life.
Each day after Eva prayed he felt just one spark when his lips met hers many times. Many were surprised Aston was having an engagement party instead just two weeks after her's ended on a sour note.
Eva knew tongues still gossiped she was ruined when Marcus told all in the room he had sampled her delights when she was still intact.
Please Marcus Eva spoke at night, every night come back to me I need you.

The day's came and went, Nothing felt the same any more.

Eva's smile faded with each passing day, walking the corridors of De Vere estate but was more a ghost of herself.

Her heart felt like lead knowing inside she would never love another.

Moving outside along the gravel pathway.

Is this how one felt with a lost love, A lone tear falling on her face, oh bugger it what am I doing moping around like a love sick cow, a quick head shake Eva plods along the gravel path near to where her cousin Lena was.

Staring at a radiant Magdalena waiting patiently for Phillip out on the lawn, Eva felt jealousy pierce her dead heart of what may have been, but that blasted man only thought of himself anger flashing in her blue eyes..

Moving on a wrapping her thin arms around her torso.

Walking along the cliffs of home the sea down below angry and rough, The wind gust had blown her hair and dress in every direction now Eva looked like a vagabond girl.

Being by herself gave Eva time to think, where was her life heading felt calmer being by herself away from all the noise from her family organising Magdalena's engagement to Aston.

Where did she go wrong?

Was a marriage in her future or would she end up an old maid? Like great Aunt Madeleine?

Could she be forward in seeing Marcus at his place?

In her minds eye Eva hoped this situation would sort itself out in time.

Eva hoped within her heart Marcus would attend so she could give him a piece of her mind and maybe a punch in the face Eva smiled to herself after punching him she would kiss him soundly with passion she never knew existed on earth though inside her stomach told her will never happen her shoulders slump down again unhappy.

Hang on why am I pining on a wastrel and rake like him I am Lady Eva Hastings daughter of an Earl?

Eva started regaining her confidence once deserting her over this fiasco.

Maybe this new party I shall find a new man skipping on the grass?

With a maturity beyond her years Eva knew she must stay strong or else she would end up in bedlam.
