Chapter 11: Prince and Princess

It's been a week since the whole dramatic 'Lucinda' crisis, we have been busy searching for any clues on where on when Tammy might show. No sign, no clue no speck of evidence to help at all, Dan insisted on checking in with the cops but there is nothing they can do. I've decided to calm down and not worry so much. I mean Tammy would be over the whole psycho-path thing now, right? Right?

Anyway we are in out third last week of school which means one thing, the formal, the winter formal to be specific, every girl in school is talking about the colour of their dress, how they will have their hair, what guy they are going with and of course, who the queen and king will be. It's the time of the year that chicks like me who have basically never worn a dress in their life, get all excited about being dolled up and dancing for the whole night. The guys just complain about how they have to wear suits and which chick they want to ask.

But the most annoying gossip thats going around the school is who Cynthia, Jake, Shane, a random guy named Cam and I are going to the dance with. Some people say, Shane and Cynthia will get back together others say I will be with Shane and the most ridiculous one I've heard is that Jake and Shane will be together. I'm not sure where that one came from and I'm afraid to ask, but if I had to guess I would say that it was Chloe's little dream, I swear she follows Shane all the time and I thought I even saw her out the window when I stayed at Shane's, of course he thinks I'm crazy.

I was standing at my locker thinking about all this as I sorted out the clutter in my locker, I may have only attended this school for around three weeks (before that I was being held at a 'special' school so I could be monitored) but damn my locker is messy.

"Hey there." I heard Shane's voice above the buzzing of the excited students,I smiled and turned to him as he arrived next to me.

"Hey." I answered hesitantly, I wanted to ask who he was taking to the dance, or if we could go together but my nerves got the best of me and I stayed quiet. I laughed and nodded over to Chloe who was throwing things around in her locker, but there was a large picture of Shane just visable in the back. Shane shrugged.

"That could be anyone" I rolled my eyes." So I saw Jake today."

"Really?" I asked wid-eyed, he hadn't shown up for ages. I wonder why now? Oh I get it. "He wants to go to the dance with Cynthia?" I scoffed. Shane thought for a second and laughed.

"Really he thinks one dance will fix anything and Cynthia will magically fall back into his arms?"

"Whose arms am I falling into?" A happy, blonde Cynthia asked. We turned to her as she leaned against the locker next to mine. My eyes fell from her and I turned to look at what the rest of the students in the hallways were. Jake stood in the doorway, his long white spiked  hair was bunched up by his beanie, he wore a black leather jacket, black skinnys and boots. For an emo boy, he looked hot.

Cynthia didn't seem to think so, she was out of there before you could say dayum. I watched and waited like the rest of the crowd. Jake ran past us to find Cynthia. And we ALL followed.

Jake ran up to her (she was hiding behind a waterfountain) he took her hands\s, asked her to go to the dance, give him a chance to explain, she shook her head, but when she pulled her hands away, a silver necklace lay in her hands, it had a heart pendant and must have cost heaps due to the real diamons inbedded in the heart.

"We don't have to go as a couple, but as friends, I can't leave things like this and I know you want to break up with me, so friends? For now? Please?" He begged. I glanced up at Shane who after everything that happened smiled, he just smiled and I smiled with him, we shared a nod then chanted.

"Say Yes! Say Yes! Say Yes." After three cheers the whole crowd begun cheering too, the sound filled the hallways and soon it felt like the whole school was cheering, I laughed and grabbed Shane's shirt he too laughed and grinned down at me, he pulled me into a hug and rest his chin on the top of my head. I watched as the crowd grew louder untill Cynthia finally shouted yes. Then we all cheered, I jumped up and down grinning madly, I know Jake didn't deserve it, the extra chance but, all that love in his eye's for her, I don't know maybe I'm just a sucker for anyone with white hair.

School flew by and eventually it was lunch time and we sat together in a group, eight of us. Shane, Jake, Cynthia, Zack, Cam, Shelby, Grace and I. We were halfway through a lunch of laughing, eating, joking and finally feeling happy when and annoucement came up.

"Good afternoon students, Tomorrow Ms Penny is holding an event in her class which you can go check out and buy nice dresses for the formal at cheap prices, also would Lucy Benard come to the office, please welcome a new student today Alyce Waterstone and lastly the names of the formal princess and prince finalists."

At that moment the whole school was silent.

"For the princess's Cynthia Shire"

Cynthia jumped up and begun screaming along with Shelby and a her 'Fans' that were in the cafetiera too, I covered my ears out of annoyence but quickly removed them when I remembered two names were left.

"Kimmi Lonar"

"Whos she?" I asked.

"She's in the drama club, really talented always get the lead roll." Grace answered.

"And Scarlett  Haze." The people around me begun screaming, jumping and hugging me, some people even came ove to congratualate Cynthia and I but the whole thing was blurry and I felt like I was in a daze.

"Now for the guys. Jake Saunders." Jake leaned back in his chair trying to hide his smile with a scowl, but as people patted him on the back he seemed to be enjoying the attention and the company.

"Cam Failen." Cam received the same attention as Jake and he leaned back smiling.

"But of coarse." Cynthia rolled her eye's.

"Cocky much."

"And Shane Perry." I grinned and congragulated him as did everyone else. But then I noticed something.

"How come basically everyone from this table was chosen?" People around me shrugged.

"Well we are the popular people in this school, people respect us, want to be like us." Cam said oh-so-not-very-subtly. I'm popular?

"Yeah we decided to sit together today for the annoucements." Grace added. Shane put an arm around my neck.

"Seeing as we're both nominated anyway, wanna go to formal together?" I nodded excitedly. I was waiting for the others to tease us but to my suprise they didn't.

"We should sit together everyday." I announced, everyone grinned and nodded. I was happy, for once in my life everything was going well. The I felt a tap on my shoulderm I swung around and froze with fear.

"Hiya my names Alyce, I'm new, mind if I sit with you?" Then she leaned down and whispered ."Your not the only one who can change their name."
